Daily Inspiration: Meet Emilya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilya.

Hi Emilya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started music at a very young age, beginning with piano. Because of my dad, I was always surrounded by music whether that was in church or at home. He sang and played guitar and pushed me to be a great musician myself. He passed when I was 15, and at that moment, I promised him I would never give up on my dreams and talents. Even though I had other interests growing up, music was always calling me. So, I packed up and went to Nashville to study music in college. That’s when I really began to write and record music I really wanted to release.

Now, I’ve graduated and moved back to Dallas. I’ve been writing, recording, and releasing music as much as I can while working full-time job. My goal is to be able to make music my full-time career. There is nothing else that satisfies me or fills me like being on stage or being in the studio, and I love being able to use music to give a voice to the voiceless. I am doing all I can to further establish my brand, sound, and get my name and music out there.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t believe a job in the music industry will ever be a smooth road. However, it’s the ups and downs that keep me interested and motivated. Some months will be busy, productive, and exciting – others, I feel like I’m not making much progress at all. The gigs won’t always come, and the streams won’t always be where I want them to be. But all it takes is one new song, collaboration, or event to reignite my fire and remind myself why I love what I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself an R&B, bedroom pop, and jazz-influenced artist. I especially love creating emotional ballads with an ethereal R&B feel.

I am most proud of the influence I have on my supporters. Even people I don’t know constantly approach me and say, “I just know you’re going to be big one day – I have a feeling.” That means so much coming from the outside because sometimes I doubt myself internally when things seem to be moving slow.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my heart and my other talents that can feed into my music career as a whole. I am not just doing this for myself, for fame, or for money – I truly want to impact, inspire, and unite others through my story and the messages in my songs. On top of being a singer, I am also a songwriter, pianist, guitarist, actress, dancer, and model. I believe these will all be assets for me as I grow in my craft.

How do you define success?
To me, success is being at peace within yourself. You can have all the money and fans in the world, but if you are empty inside it means nothing. Success is finding the balance between doing what you love, making a living off of that while remaining humble enough to put others’ interests and desires before your own. As an artist, I believe you should have the same love and respect for your fans as they do for you.
