Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Bryant.
Hi Kaitlyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an esthetician going on five years now. I’ve been in many different work environments and none felt like home to me. I actually ended up where I am now and starting my business as KatiebugzBeauty because I had posted in a local girl group I’m in to see if any other lash artists had some gel eye pads I could borrow because I had ran out, haha. A woman commented and said I could come by for some and when I showed up, she was so nice and the place was so cute. Suddenly she says hey, you should rent a spot here with us. Honestly, I was terrified and kept putting it off for a few weeks because of it. The idea of booth rental and being my own boss was so scary to me. I have loved it every day since, though! It’s almost been a year there and I’m so happy. It’s definitely been challenging at times, being that we’re in an ongoing pandemic but I’m growing and adapting!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not always. The pandemic pretty much started a couple weeks after I signed my lease to start renting my spot and was getting my clientele going. Just my luck! haha, It was scary going through having salons have to shut down and losing my way of income for two months, not knowing what would happen next. Some weeks are amazing, some aren’t as amazing always. Being your own boss, your money isn’t just guaranteed so it can definitely be scary at times but it motivates you to work harder.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an esthetician who specializes in eyelash extensions and PMU (permanent makeup). I think what sets me apart is how I go out of my way to do for others. Even if it’s a day I have myself marked as being off from work, if someone tells me they need to get in, you bet I’ll be there even if I could have said “sorry I’m off today” and been relaxing at home instead. Or, if I’m booked for the day I’ll sometimes offer to come in early or stay late for someone. There was one day months ago I worked from 6 am to almost 9pm so that I could fit everyone in. It was crazy and tiring but worth it to make everyone happy. I love to give people great customer service. I want them to remember how nice I was to them and that I’m someone they can talk and laugh with or vent to if need be also.
What does success mean to you?
If you wake up happy to go to work because you love what you do, that’s success to me. Not a lot of people can say that they love their job so it’s a blessing to be able to. What I do makes other people feel happy and beautiful so it definitely makes me feel successful.
