Daily Inspiration: Meet Tamika McCuistion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika McCuistion.

Hi Tamika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
A couple of years ago, tragedy occurred that sparked love, compassion, and an idea. A fire occurred and took a portion of our home including all of contents. During this unimaginable event, a unique care package from Germany was received with an assortment of love. This gracious gift of generosity was the inspiration behind Aglaiya.

Inspiration and a deep passion for unique products and meticulous packaging brought two women together with a focus on delivering happiness and lasting memories to both the sender and receiver.

The name, AGLAIYA, was conceived during a women’s college soccer game in LeGrand Oregon. Aglaea (/əˈɡliːə/) or Aglaïa (/əˈɡlaɪə/) Is the name of one of three sister goddesses (“the three Graces”) who are the givers of charm and beauty in Greek mythology.

Our name, AGLAIYA, was inspired by the beauty that they represent. As the givers of beauty, the three Graces remind us that beauty is not owned; it’s circulated. Our beauty does not come from what we have or take; it comes from what we give to others. AGLAIYA represents the beauty in gift-giving.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To curate, photograph, and market the perfect gift all things must align. The curating aspect of the equation has been somewhat smooth; however acquiring the products have proved challenging. Logistical issues have caused countless delays from beginning to end. Our team has attempted to circumvent these issues with some success. The gift boxes themselves took 6 months longer than anticipated. We still have various products that are now 7 months behind.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
From my LinkedIn Profile:

I build enterprises. As a world-class problem solver, I create solutions for lasting and positive change while netting reliable revenue streams. I am an entrepreneur and an innovator to my core—traits I leverage into business growth. Today’s successful organizations need strategic insight, a clear roadmap, and next-generation operating models that deliver in today’s volatile environments. Strategist. Influencer. Change agent. I draw from a well-researched, high-level understanding of markets, trends, and emerging best practices to create high-impact roadmaps that deliver.

My career in software began 20 years ago. I joined a small company, RealPage Inc, of 200 employees. RealPage provided software and services to the multifamily industry. During my tenure, the company grew from 200 to 7,000 employees, from losing money to going public as a 1B dollar company. As a Chief Advocate Officer, me and my team focused on the customer to ensure they achieved success, and sometimes success meant different things to organizations. My team understood their goals and found ways to achieve them.

I left RealPage after 17 years and started my own software company serving the needs of Engineers, elevating their document process needs.

I continue to support my team and the companies we serve at Qore8.

I chose to combine my passion for creating easy-to-use software with my passion for style and gift giving and formed AGLAIYA.

What Set Me Apart? Savvy. I am savvy. I am never the smartest in the room, but I am savvy and have the ability to make decisions quickly.

What makes you happy?
Christmas is my favorite holiday because I like to give gifts that delightfully surprise the recipient. My goal is to make the gifting exchange memorable. I want to be remembered for being thoughtful and generous.
