Exploring Life & Business with Caleb Davis of FAVE Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Davis.

Hi Caleb, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My goal is to be, for others, what I never had growing up. In some cases, that’s a positive Black male role model. However, in most cases, that’s a Black male educator. Growing up, I always knew that I would end up in the field of education. I found out early on that helping others was my superpower and that would ultimately bring out my passion for teaching and learning.

For the first seven years of my career, I had the pleasure of serving as a classroom educator. However, there were just too many things that didn’t sit right with me regarding the traditional school system. While working “inside” of the schools, I began highlighting detrimental flaws and it eventually brought these three points to light. First, the system kept me in a box and hindered the creativity of myself and my scholars. Secondly, everything was about testing testing testing and it was draining! Lastly, the curriculum was not relevant or responsive to my scholars’ cultures.

So, when I created FAVE Academy, it was built on providing teachers and students the opportunity to experience culturally responsive learning in ways that are effective and FUN. We take the focus away from standardized testing and place it on collaborative and project-based learning in the REAL WORLD. By engaging in diverse learning experiences, our learners gain an essential academic advantage that they can take with them into every aspect of their lives.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to launching FAVE Academy has been extremely rewarding but difficult at times. As an entrepreneur, it’s a great feeling to create something from the ground up and watch it grow. However, coming from a classroom teacher to launching your own academy forces you to learn things about education and entrepreneurship that you never knew. It’s taken a lot of long days and nights to get where I am today, but I still have a lot of work to do in my efforts to innovate the field of education.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about FAVE Academy?
FlUrNing’s Academy of Venturesome Education, also known as FAVE Academy, is the first and only Black-owned mobile micro-school in Dallas. Respectfully, this is the “Modern Day Magic School Bus.” Our goal is to GET OUT OF SCHOOLS. It’s time to get out of classrooms and experience learning in the real world. It’s time to stop sitting at desks all day to only memorize test answers. FlUrNing was birthed on the idea that our scholars deserve to have FUN while they learn. So, it’s only fitting that this will be an academy that centralizes its focus on the scholar experience and their interests. It’s time to #TeachDifferent and innovates education!

For our inaugural year, we are searching for ten scholars between the ages of 10-12 years old or entering grades 5, 6 or 7 who are looking to embrace their inner creative minds, be challenged with actual real-world problems and remove the added stress of standardized testing—all while exploring the depths of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Unlike other micro-schools that are created by big businesses with teachers who have minimal teaching experience, this Venturesome Educational opportunity is facilitated solely by educators who have the scholars’ best interests in mind.

Aside from being the only academy that focuses on venturesome learning experiences, what really sets us apart from the rest are three important components. First, is the fact that our program is extremely intimate. Our class size caps off at 10 learners, so each one will receive a personalized education based on their needs and wants. We provide each learner with their own academic support device. That way, they can learn at their own pace and focus on their passions. This leads me to my second point. I’ve developed a “Learning Preference Assessment” that extracts the ways scholars learn best and identifies the most effective approaches to connect with and educate each individual learner. As a result, every scholar will have a higher chance to expedite their academic progress and achieve in ways they never knew they could. Lastly, we offer a global and diverse learning experience that focuses on culturally responsive instruction and building better citizens. Getting hands-on and diving deep into different cultures allow for our youth to gain a rich sense of the world at a young age.

Again, if you’re tired of the traditional school settings and systems, tired of your child not being exposed to the real world through education and you’re ready for them to experience a learning opportunity like no other—now is your chance! Parents, I know you see the value of this program. However, our slots are extremely limited and I don’t want you to miss out. The application process is very easy. You can apply on our website at Additionally, if you have any questions, reach out to and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

What matters most to you?
Black Lives and Education. My focus is on creating a world where justice is bestowed on our Black and Brown scholars as we decolonize education, strip away systemic racism and build frameworks for equitable education. I will fight to ensure reparations are provided to our scholars, families and educators for the educational oppression and ingratitude faced for centuries.
