Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Reed.
Hi Derek, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I developed a passion for building websites and began taking on clients while still in college (early 2000’s) for a couple of students that were looking to start a side business. Although their business ultimately didn’t explode out of the gate, it did generate a lot of buzz for them (T-Shirt Business and a local Kidswear directory site, respectively).
Having that great feeling of playing a part in helping other’s businesses grow by creating great website designs, It formed into my core belief. I treat all of my clients as if they’re my FIRST! Also, I subscribe to the adage of Quality over Quantity, this helps me to form a solid working relationship with my clients instead of treating them like a number or just another project to work on.
Having that relationship to get a deep understanding of my clients also allows RDG to develop a range of creativity that fits their needs very well. I am primarily responsible for taking concept ideas and making them into fully functioning websites. I also have a small network of professional associates that help with a range of services from SEO/Marketing to Application development. Ultimately RDG aims to have the “Big Agency” services while keeping the one on one feeling when you work with me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a Digital Consulting business is never simple or easy, as with any business. When I got started, I had no clue as to how to manage the actual BUSINESS side, as my passion was simply creating sites and marketing my services. However, that quickly changed when I’ve hit slow periods and I had to learn how to ask for help from the RIGHT people. Also, I have to stay on top of trends and also continue to learn and review the latest techniques that can be leveraged into a potential client’s website or application. That helps to make all the difference in where I am today regarding my business.

What sets Reed Design Group apart from the other design consultants is that I treat all of my clients as if they’re the only ones in the room. I listen to what they need and I do my best to translate their needs into a visual and functional solution as an extension of their business. I use my skills (15 years Adobe / 10+ Years WordPress development) to bring high-quality designs and features to clients to help them stand out from their competition. Additional services that I provide include SEO, Brand Design, Marketing and App Design/Development.
