Exploring Life & Business with Robin Garrett of Oopsy Daisy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Garrett.

Hi Robin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I combined my love of gardening, interior+exterior design, and affordable shopping to create not only a business but an atmosphere where our customers can come to relax and get inspired. We’re in a mid-century gas station so the huge roll-up doors and the flow of indoor to outdoor browsing just makes our whole vibe so cozy and inviting! Our plant selection and quality is second to none and one of my favorite things is to showcase how to use natural plantlife in all areas of your home with a mix of unique home decor.

Over the years (we’ve been in business since 2012!), our only form of advertising has been word-of-mouth and it certainly shows. Our faithful customers are in sometimes multiple times per week, and we meet dozens of their friends/new referrals every day. Time and time again, we hear the feedback that our store is just so easy to be at ~ our merchandise, our prices, our chill vibe, and especially our customer service have all contributed to why we’ve been able to be around for so long and where we are today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’m sure there’ve been challenges but honestly, there has never been anything we couldn’t overcome or figure our way around. Compared to stories I hear of other small business owners; I feel we’ve had a pretty smooth road and that’s mostly because we keep everything very simple. We only use other mom-and-pop companies to buy our product from and I hand select every item we carry with the thought “would I want this in my own home?” as I shop for the store. This one simple process (of many) keeps the ship running nice and tidy and emphasizes our authenticity, contributing to our success.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Oopsy Daisy?
We are tucked into a quaint little neighborhood, off the beaten path. We’re still easy to find, while not being in the hustle bustle mix of big retailers. Our niche location is indication of the type of store we are: not your everyday, mass-produced, overpriced items where it is hard to find a clerk, much less a kind conversation and personalized suggestions on how to use our products in your own home. We LOVE getting to know our customers, hearing their stories. Our brand has become one associated with a peaceful destination to browse at ease and feel better when you leave, whether you made a purchase or not.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Supporting small business is important to us which is why we choose to do so by only stocking merchandise either grown, handmade, or sold by other small businesses. The word-of-mouth advertising and social media shares is what has overwhelmed us with the increase in sales year after year. Feeling that love, we implemented a give-back standard seven years ago where we choose a different deserving charity each year and donate a percentage of every sale all year long to that cause. This year it is Tunnel to Towers. Without even always being aware of it, our customers are not only supporting OUR small business but several others that we get our products from AND donating to a very worthwhile charity with each item they buy from us!
