Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci S. Campbell.
Hi Traci, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started out with a career in information technology. I travel quite a bit early in my career and at the same time I was a very young caregiver to my mother. 12 years later, I lost her to heart disease in 2007. At that point, I began to explore other areas of interest that included writing and hence I authored The C.H.A.M.P. Within book and work program in 2009. (This program went on to help over 800 young people and adults in the US and Nairobi, Kenya) Nonprofit work which led to the creation of two 501 C3 organizations: The C.H.A.M.P. Community Project and The BIBO foundation. And later I pursued media-related projects in podcasting, AM/FM radio, and now a brand-new streaming network that we recently launched on Roku called BeSpire TV.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a young African American woman starting out of her career in information technology in a corporate, male-dominated environment is not easy. I’ve benefited from mentors who saw within me a talent that should be nurtured and that made the progression of my career a little easier, but not easy by any means! In addition to that, caring for a parent dealing with heart disease and depression while trying to build a career and have a social life as a young person made for a whole host of other challenges. But nonetheless, I was able to cultivate a successful career, care for my mother in a way that I believe she was proud of, and move on to develop platforms that help other disadvantaged young women, single parents, and small business owners.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the CEO of BIBO Worldwide, LLC. This business develops media projects and platforms and offers affordable promotion of small businesses. I am also the founder of the BIBO Foundation which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps disadvantaged young women through support via mentorship and, in 2023, the introduction of scholarships as well.
We are launching a brand-new free Roku streaming network called BeSpire TV.
Our motto is:
Be Informed. Be Entertained. Be Inspired.
This platform will provide new original shows as well as TV movies, retro TV series, classic movies, music videos, cartoons, and family shows, and more!
We are very proud of the BIBO (Beauty In /Beauty Out) brand, and all of the related projects related to BIBO that celebrate female excellence. And we are VERY proud of our new media platform, BeSpire TV. All these platforms have a few VERY important things in common: To provide information in an entertaining way and at the same time offer support to disadvantaged communities, small businesses; to bring awareness to people and projects that otherwise do not get the attention they deserve because they cannot afford a big marketing budget or a dedicated public relations team.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The future is very very bright for women in media. Many of the women that are powerhouses in media right now are Women of color, women over the age of 40, and women who have had to pay their dues in order to get to where they are now. This is a very exciting time for women to launch and grow and collaborate in media. And I absolutely see BIBO and especially BeSpire TV doing great things in this space. And, while growing in this space, continuing to offer help and support to the people that we currently serve through our 501(c)(3) organization.
