Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Sanchez of Lashed By Cat
Hi Cathy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Let’s take it back to 2015. I had graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in marketing and struggled to find a marketing job so I accepted a position in logistics since a lot of my colleagues had taken that route as well. I figured why not, let’s just see where this takes me. I had actually gotten my first set of lash extensions done in 2017 and became so intrigued by the lash industry. Alonngside my full-time logistics job, I would play around with eyelash tabbing. Applying them on family members and friends, I quickly realized I enjoyed hands-on work that require intense attention to detail.
Within the span of five years, I worked at three different logistic companies and felt like there was more for me outside the industry I’ve grown to be too familiar with and tired of. I ended up touring a beauty school in 2018 but quickly realized it had to be put on the back burner. As much as I wanted to start a new journey, I couldn’t justify paying such high tuition and being required to learn more than what I already knew what I wanted to specialize in. My husband and I also just had our firstborn so attending beauty school and working full time wasn’t the ideal situation at the moment.
Fast forward to 2020… We welcomed our second and with our kids being so close in age, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom for a bit. Which by the way, props to all stay-at-home moms out there because it’s not easy! One night I was laying in bed scrolling through Instagram and an ad for Glance Lash Academy popped up. I was super skeptical, so I did my research, and it turns out that Texas now offers an eyelash extensions specialist license! It was like fate telling me this was my moment- so of course, after the encouragement from my husband and family, I took the opportunity! Let me tell y’all… BEST DECISION EVER!
Here I am today, owning my own little lash extensions business and to bring my story to a full circle. It’s opened doors for me to put my marketing degree to use! Talk about everything happening for a reason- I couldn’t feel any more blessed and happier!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With everything happening in 2020 when businesses were shutting down, I was on the path to opening my own. Opening my books during a time of uncertainty was definitely a struggle. It was difficult getting people through the doors and to be completely honest, I’m still not as busy as I’d like to be! But on the other hand, I do have my husband and kiddos at home, so the free time and flexible schedule I have gives me the opportunity to not miss out on family time. Having a work-life balance is very important to me, and it will be something I continue to figure out as my business grows.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer classic, hybrid, and volume lash extension sets. Most clients come to me because they notice my work is very “natural” looking. It’s the perfect amount of pop! I’ve never been a heavy makeup wearer, and now that I’m a mom, I definitely don’t have much time to get ready. So I feel lash extensions are the way to go! You wake up looking “put together” without much effort. I love it, and I just want to share that feeling with others!
Aside from lash extensions, I also offer a content marketing workshop! I’m very proud of my brand’s image and have put a lot of work into it. I get a lot of questions regarding how I design my business cards, so I turned that opportunity into a workshop to teach others how to create aesthetically pleasing content for their social media pages, business cards, etc. This is the part where I get to put my marketing degree to use, and I enjoy it very much!
