Hidden Gems: Meet Jeanine Bowens of Lovely P.U.S.H Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanine Bowens.

Hi Jeanine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Certainly, thank you for the opportunity! I’m Jeanine Bowens born and raised in Dallas, TX. My passion for fashion started at a very young age. I knew I wanted to have a career in the fashion field and believed that it was my calling. I received my BA in Fashion Merchandising from the University of North Texas. Fashion has always been an outlet for me and a non-verbal way to express myself. I take pride in having a versatile style range from bohemian, retro, and urban, to modern, classic, and chic. I had the idea of opening up a boutique after having extensive experience in the industry and wanting to honor my mom after her passing of stomach cancer in 2015.

I’ve done a lot of research on how to execute the vision God has given me and I put a plan into action. In 2020, I, unfortunately, was laid off of my job due to the pandemic. Little did I know, it would actually propel me further to launch Lovely P.U.S.H Boutique. “Lovely PUSH” was my mother’s nickname on social media. Lovely is what she preferred to be called as a grandmother and P.U.S.H is not only an acronym, but also what she taught our family “Pray Until Something Happens.” I was raised to value Christian principles and continue to hold true to those values instilled in me. That’s why I’ve always been about Faith and Fashion!

Not only did we lose my mother to stomach cancer, but my maternal grandmother also passed from this disease. This is why I decided to donate 5% of ALL sales to the charity organization Hope for Stomach Cancer. I want to help provide support, resources, and awareness to those affected by stomach cancer. Through research, early detection, and prevention, their goal is to serve the stomach cancer community helping to save lives and hoping to find a cure. It was very important to me and a huge focus on starting this business to give back and bring awareness about stomach cancer.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. I’m sure that almost every business, especially small business owners can attest that there are a lot of challenging days. I believe that one of the biggest struggles for me is to stay consistent. Whether that be with social media, different ideas, new products, marketing, etc. The next biggest challenge for me is simply making decisions.

I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that I have a bad tendency to overthink. I can be very indecisive at times and battle perfectionism along with comparison. Those things alone have been some obstacles I continually have to face and overcome. Also, staying motivated and remembering my “why” behind opening this business. It’s bigger than me! This is not only to honor my mother, but to leave a family legacy and give back. If I don’t see a huge range of followers, sales, or even email subscriptions at this time, there’s still purpose in my why to keep going.

I would like to encourage others by letting them know to not give up. “If you quit, they won’t start.” Meaning you never know who’s watching you and will come behind you. A lot of times it takes a village, so lean on your support system and trust in the vision that God gave you.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lovely P.U.S.H Boutique. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lovely P.U.S.H Boutique is an online clothing boutique offering several different styles for all sizes, with a goal in mind for you to “find your own style.” We take pride in servicing our customers not only with clothing and accessories, but also with wardrobe styling. Our styling services include one-on-one consultations, closet check up, personal styling and shopping. If you have any upcoming shoots, events, or want to update your wardrobe then we’re able to help and do offer a complimentary 30 minute consultation to get you started. Also, 5% of ALL total sales will be donated to Hope for Stomach Cancer which is a nonprofit organization through research, early detection, and prevention. They’re goal is to serve the stomach cancer community helping to save lives and hoping to find a cure. This is to honor the inspiration behind this company, “Lovely PUSH” herself who lost her battle to stomach cancer in 2015.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My faith in Jesus Christ has been my foundation and have really gotten me through. It’s very much so a part of who I am, so I have to give God all the glory for every opportunity. And I most definitely have to acknowledge my older sister Shammara Bowens. She actually had a similar idea to carry on our mother’s legacy and launched her own company “Lovely PUSH Cleaning Services” back in 2016.

This is also what inspired me to become an entrepreneur in honor of our mother. So I’ve looked up to her along with my older brother O’Shea Bowens who’s also an entrepreneur. He owns “Null Hat Security.” Being able to see them and how they operate their businesses, not only makes me a proud little sister, but was motivation for me to start. I also have to express my sincere gratitude to all of my family and friends for their love, support, accountability and much-needed prayers.

Some friends and family have even been a “volun-told” model/photographer and a lot of them have actually turned out to be some of my biggest return clients thus far.  I couldn’t be more grateful for them believing in me. Also big thanks to my big cousin Joseph Samuel (owner of The Craftender) for this nomination. It really means a lot and I’m very appreciative. I have so much gratitude of how the list goes on with all who have been there. It’s truly a blessing!
