Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hubbard .
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I developed my love for cutting hair at the age of 10, when I was younger my older cousin Anthony would always cut me, my twin brother Chris, and my little cousin’s hair but it would always be weeks in between haircuts and I didn’t like having long hair so one day I decided to try cutting my hair myself.
My cousin stayed with my grandma and I knew where he stored his clippers, so one day I went into his room, grabbed his clippers, locked myself in the bathroom, and started cutting away. The rest is history after that, I fell in love with it instantly.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, first starting out at 10 of course I was horrible at cutting. I would tear my head up cutting it, shave it bald, let it grown back about a week or so then go back and try it again over and over. I didn’t know the differences between certain clippers & what they were actually used for so I made a lot of simple mistakes 20 years ago as I’m 30 now, that I just didn’t know back then.
Some of the struggles mainly were fading my hair, getting a sharp line on my edge up without cutting myself, and overall, just making the haircut look good but I’m a quick learner and after about a few weeks I started to see improvement in my own haircuts and started asking my brother & cousins if I could cut their hair for practice.
We’ve been impressed with Grind Hard Barber Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I opened up my barbershop, Grind Hard Barber Studio, I did so with the sole purpose of bringing something to my hometown that I felt we desperately needed, a barber who can cater and take care of all ethnicities of folks with different hair textures.
We at Grind Hard specialize in a wide variety of hair cutting & styling but we are most known for a faded hairstyles, and most importantly our customer service. I pride myself on exceeding all the customers that come to our shop expectations, and I absolutely love cutting the young kids and keeping them fresh, I’m very proud and honored to be able to serve people using the gift God gave me.
What sets my shop apart from the rest around my area is simply just the fact that we are very family-oriented, and we have a true passion for what we do! We strive every time our clippers cut on to provide not just a service, but an experience you can’t get anywhere else.
I’m very proud of the fact that my brand not only won “Best of Cooke County” for 2021, but also is associated with lots of great things being done to better my community in Gainesville, we partner and work with a lot of great organizations within our city yo help others, give back, and I couldn’t be more happy with the results we have seen so far with only being in business 19 months.
Brand wise, for me “Grind Hard” is a mentality, and that’s what I make a choice to do daily is work my tail off to provide the best life for myself and my family.
The services we offer are top tier, we take pride in what we do, we cater to the needs of all our clients no matter the age or ethnic background, and we provide an experience that I feel boost us to stick out more than those around us.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played an essential role in why the shop is as successful as it has been. I didn’t have a business plan made, or clear-cut direction of what I was doing when I decided to open a barbershop at home, I just stepped out on faith after a very important person in my life told me that I need to stop being scared and just do it, everything just kind of fell into place after that.
