Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Cater.
Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I worked in the real estate sector of Corporate America for years before starting my own business. I was working the daily grind and assisting small business owners in obtaining multi-million dollar contracts and moving them into successful businesses. At this point, my husband and I had three kids at home and I realized that I could not meet the goals I had for myself as a mom. We had suffered loss before our twins were born, after a miscarriage and losing a child. This loss pushed me to realize that I didn’t want to miss out on my children and seeing them grow and loving them as much as I could. Working in the corporate world just wasn’t an environment allowing me to give what I could and be the mom and wife I wanted to be, and I knew I could do more. She left the corporate world and started the concept that created what INC Management Group is today.
Now seven years later, between my husband and my children, we are running multiple businesses. I am owner and manager of INC Management Group, which is a multi-client business specializing in business support features like administrative and HR Assistance, Virtual Assistant needs and project management, among many other features. My husband is the mastermind behind his sports recording and editing business, Hat Trick Recording and as co-owner and driving force of the back end, we have become a name in the local sports groups. Our kids have started their own company making specialty soaps and we look forward to getting that out this spring! It really has been a dream come true to have my whole family together and working towards these different but amazing goals and being able to do it together, like I have always wanted.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing work and home has been the number one challenge for me. I always want to put God first, family second and everything after that, but sometimes the workload can rise and rise! I have to remind myself that it’s ok to take some time and step away for a few hours, a day, three days. Sometimes that is more needed than anything else. Being able to close my laptop and be with my family is why I chose this path of entrepreneur and I will continue to work on my work/life balance probably forever! The second challenge is staffing. Being a small business, I am definitely competing with larger companies to keep quality staff within the culture of our company. I understand that people need different things and I try as a manager and boss to provide a positive working environment, but I do struggle with keeping a full staff just due to being a smaller company. America is founded on small business and I want to continue working to keep that foundation going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My company INC Management Group is a collective of business needs: Operations support, business admin support, digital marketing, human resource implementation, etc. We want to provide it all for a business. What sets us apart from other businesses is that I operate my company under servant leadership. Servant leadership is a philosophy and set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world. I strive to promote the well-being of those around me everyday. As a brand we aim to provide all around support for other businesses.
We are proud to be seen as a one-stop-shop for all needs of a business, large or small. And when we are working with a company, we intend to grow as they grow. We want each business to have a core team and feel like they can scale up when ready because they have the support of a team behind them. Something I would want readers to know is to never assume that you can’t afford to work with a company like us! In staying true to our mission and vision our ultimate goal is really to be of help and serve and to impact those around us in any way we can. I believe that we can make pretty much anything work and we don’t turn any business away based on where they are today, but get them where they want to be tomorrow. A big part of helping those in business is also striving to help femmepreneuers. I believe in the power of giving and I want to give as much as I can. In working this way, we have a direct referral program and we pay residual income by simply telling someone about our service. If any reader sees this and knows of a business that could use our services, we want to know about them and we will reward you for being that connection!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I can be a massive control freak – Ha ok maybe that was already known! During my high risk pregnancy with twins I reached a point where I needed full time care so I lived in the hospital for the last two months of my pregnancy. I was in the hospital and my youngest, Isaac was at home with dad and a friend who would babysit him during the day. It was so hard being away from my family during this stressful time. I wanted to be done with this pregnancy and take my babies home and be together again! So the time had come and it was 36 weeks and I was done! I called all my family and loved ones and let them know I am having these babies! I had family coming in from all over, even driving in from 2-3 hours away. All this family came down and I had a hospital full of friends and family and the doctor came into my room and I told him “I’m ready!”
It’s 36 weeks today, so let’s have these twins!” But the doctor was not on the same page! He asked me who had told me this and I told him no one had said it, I just thought at 36 weeks I was ready for this planned C-section! But sadly, it was not the plan. The doctor had decided that going past 36 weeks would be better for the twins and I ended up carrying to full term! When the twins arrived (finally) there were two close family members there to greet them! Before I was pregnant with my twins, I had lost a child and this really changed the path of my life. The process of losing a child gave me more care and concern for helping others create a life a joy and less regrets. This was the baseline of creating my company and why I want to give to those in need and also why I value the home and work balance and family time.
