Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Guerra.
Hi Ricardo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Ricardo Guerra, and I am very glad to be part of the VAVV team and to help people in Peru, where I lived for 30 years. As a lawyer in Peru and an MBA graduate from the University of Dallas, I have been able to get the experience to support VAVV both in its operations in Peru and USA to contribute to the mission of giving water to those who don’t have the access to this vital element for life. Studying Sociology for one year in France and working for the Peruvian Government and several law firms in Peru have allowed me to fully comprehend the urgency of our work and boosted my passion to dedicate fully to bringing immediate help to those who lack access to the fundamental right of water.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Certainly, taking up some business courses after working as a lawyer for years was a major challenge for me since my daily work as a lawyer was more oriented toward contracts, regulation, and compliance. After struggling for two years, I was able to finish the MBA. I must say that I feel honestly really blessed to have been able to find a job on campus in the library during my MBA studies at UD, and especially to have been able to find Vera Aqua Vera Vita, an organization that allows me to use all my skills and deploy all my professional experience and knowledge in benefit of the projects and programs.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Vera Aqua Vera Vita?
The name of the organization is Vera Aqua Vera Vita, which stands for True Water True Life in Latin. We have become game-changers in finishing the world water crisis affecting the northern part of Peru. We build water sanitation plants in communities that have limited access to water or only have access to contaminated water. Currently, we have 2 ongoing projects in 2 different communities in the northern part of Peru, and we aim to complete 5 more in the next few years. We are known for providing high-tech clean water solutions that are going to last for generations and for targeting communities that need the most of this vital element, all by using either underground water or surface water. What sets us apart from others is that we teach the communities about the technicalities of the solutions we provide, allowing communities not only to stay on top of the maintenance and operations of the solutions but to replicate them as well. We want people to know that we are inspired by Christian values and that we also do yearly mission trips to the locations we serve. We call everyone to join our efforts by becoming volunteers, sponsors, or monthly donors and to join our mission trips that aim to prepare construction works as well.
What’s next?
We aim to complete these 7 ongoing projects in the northern part of Peru in the following years. These seven communities are La Merced, Las Mercedes, La Merced km11, Total Alto, Totoral Bajo, Carrizalillo and Cerro de Leones. They are all situated in Piura, a northern region of Peru. Also, we are going to have an important mission trip next year in which we are going to have an educational workshop on water sanitation for adults and kids.
