Today we’d like to introduce you to Sejal Patel.
Hi Sejal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was 14 years old when I moved to the United States with my family from India. My parents, as every immigrant does, had an American dream in this land of opportunities for my brother and me. I graduated from the University of Texas in San Antonio with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology & Chemistry and furthered my education at Texas Woman’s University, where I pursued my Masters in Business Administration. Working for myself was always an end goal for me. Coming from a family of successful entrepreneurs, motivation was always around.
After I completed my MBA, I started looking for opportunities in the DFW area. I am a managing partner at Kids R Kids Learning Academies of Flower Mound & Keller. We are a privately owned educational facility caring for children ages six weeks to 12 years. In addition, I am also a part-time photographer. I have always loved the craft and finally decided to take it upon a professional level recently. I am a partner and official food photographer for an online food blog fastcurries.com which I manage along with my friend.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I believe everything is hard before it gets easier. Like every first experience, we had our hurdles to cross in our preschool. It took about two years to reach steadiness, and to incorporate our vision and make this place a well-oiled machine. Not having a background in the preschool industry came with several challenges. However, I do believe in learning from experience. It all comes to the point of making the right decision for the children that can bring a positive change in their lives. The major challenge, which remains, is hiring loving and nurturing staff members for our children who have the passion for this job.
The key to our success is a family-oriented staff dedicated to providing a secure, nourishing environment. We particularly love and value our incredible teachers, who invest in a child’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development. Love for teaching young children and a passion for it is crucial. We try to remain below the state teacher to student ratio, as one can imagine. Handling nine toddlers is a difficult task. I am extremely proud of our staff as they do a marvelous job. We aim to build a strong educational foundation for the kids in our community. We are shaping our futures, and I find that very rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kids R Kids Learning Academies?
Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academies is a franchise which is locally owned and operated. We are very proud to provide the most innovative facility and effective educational programs for children six weeks through 12 years of age. Kids ‘R’ Kids International & our locations are accredited by Cognia, the world’s largest education community, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI). SACS/CASI is an accreditation division of Cognia. This accreditation ensures that we are meeting and exceeding the high accreditation standards and providing excellence in education beyond most local daycare or childcare providers. Our accredited programs ensure that every child receives an accelerated foundation for elementary school through developmentally appropriate practices, hands-on involvement, vocabulary, literacy skills, small-group instructions and more. Last but not the least, we are extremely proud of our 15,000 square feet state of the art facilities with glass walls, security cameras in the classrooms, and fresh and healthy meals prepared daily in our commercial kitchen.
What does success mean to you?
If you want to be successful, one has to put in the work, be patient while we navigate through some frustrations and disappointments that come along the way. Cultivate good habits and make most of the finite amount of time we all have in a day. Most important thing is to keep the positive attitude each day you wake up and try it “one more time”. I also believe in surrounding yourself with people you admire and who see your value and remind you of it. Once we do this, we become a better version of ourselves and success will follow.
