Hidden Gems: Meet Shon Williams of Crown Credit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Williams.

Hi Shon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Absolutely! Thank you for the opportunity. I’m so excited to share. So, honestly, I struggled with my own credit and finances for years, and I finally got tired and decided to do something about it. I turned my financial life around through studying, investigating, and taking numerous credit and finance classes. And even now,  I am constantly researching, reading and pursuing continued training. My goal is to be better- every day and gain more knowledge, every day.

I started repairing credit, in 2011. It actually started because I was paying someone to repair my own credit. Inadvertently, due to their mistake, I received one of the dispute letters meant for a creditor. I read it and thought “this sounds like a second grader wrote it!” So, I fired my credit repair agent- and became one! I was my own first customer! Then it extended to family and friends… and eventually, I had a functioning and flourishing business.

I was quickly seeing results, and this ignited a passion to connect and encourage others, who were in that same credit injured position. I studied leading names in credit repair and finance. I filled a lot of journals and I used a lot of sticky notes. I researched the history and protocols, and Crown Credit was born! “Wisdom is beautiful and valuable. It is like a ‘crown’ on the head…” thus the name “Crown” Credit. My ultimate goal is to educate, share information and assist people in renewing their lives by ruling their credit.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My goodness, that’s a strong no. It has not been necessarily easy and definitely not smooth. As to be expected, there are struggles both to start and maintain a business, especially in what’s called an “at-risk business.” There is a lot of behind-the-scenes responsibility in establishing a business from registering the business, tax and financial responsibility, payment processes, marketing and just simply creating the day-to-day processes and procedures.

From the start, the biggest obstacle was the fear that the business would fail. But I was reminded and encouraged by my most favorite quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”.

I believe too often I want to know how something will turn out or end, before I commit to it, or even try it, but eventually, I’m always reminded to have faith, start small, and that I don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. While there have been times, actually many times, I almost convinced myself to quit, something inside always nudges me to keep going. It’s not always easy- but it’s always worth it.

Amid Covid and major life and financial hardships around the globe- our doors remained open. As individuals faced monetary, physical, emotional and uncertain, unforeseen times, so did we. As a non-essential business, everyday could have been our last day. But we are thankful- we made it through some of the hardest times and we are rebounding. It’s one thing to say you own a business, it’s an entirely different thing to say you owned a business through the Covid pandemic- and survived!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Crown Credit, LLC?

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic crisis was a hard time for everyone. I, like everyone else, experienced and witnessed things I never had before. But, through it all, I’ve learned a lot of lessons that will stay with me for life. The truth is the pandemic has taught all of us- many lessons. Any time it’s mentioned I say, “I believe if any of us come out of this pandemic the same- something is wrong!”

The quick onset of the pandemic made me quickly review our best business practices in the day-to-day organization, operation, and administration. As a business owner, I have had to be very flexible and make adjustments in a short period of time to accommodate the effects of the pandemic. The biggest challenge was for clients to be able to sign up for services or inquire about services without ever leaving their homes, while still maintaining our personal touch. We have improved our communication methods and incorporated various measures to ensure we maintain our personal touch, with good communication and excellent customer service. We have created an easy on-boarding process and clients can do it all from the comfort of their living room. Our goal has always been to be professional, personable and productive; and after much trial and error, and even as we weather the storm of the pandemic- I believe we have done just that!

As a result of the pandemic, I encourage clients, even more than before, to manage their credit, save money, live below their means, and limit or cut out the unnecessary expenses. Emergencies happen. Life happens. We must be ready for the unexpected. But more than anything- I encourage everyone to LIVE and live well! Life is short.

I am so thankful for both, our clients and support system. I’ve grown so much throughout this journey and my family is the ultimate reason I’ve been able to do it all. They are my pillar of strength in everything I do. I am grateful for the journey so far and look forward to even greater things ahead!
