Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Jones.
Dustin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This is a big question! For my work career, I started my professional work in a congressman’s office. When I moved to Texas, I got a job in marketing for a brief time, but ended up in HR. I have been in HR for over 20 years. I left in September 2021 to start my own business. I am a fractional CHRO consultant that specializes in strategic infrastructure creation and planning, as well as training and development and individual employee coaching. I am a speaker, trainer, and entrepreneur. I have a BA in Communications and recently completed my Masters in Communications.
On the personal side, I am from Southern California. I was married for 9 years, then divorced. I was a single mom with two amazing kiddos. I remarried in 2013. I have been in Texas since 1999. I enjoy outdoor activities and water sports like surfing, paddle boarding, and wakeboarding. I also like to work out and run. My husband and I enjoy riding motorcycles together as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anything is a smooth road, and to be honest, a windy road makes you stronger and challenges you to be better. I became burnt out working in corporate several years ago, and my husband encouraged me to start my own consulting firm. Having been a single mom, I was financially risk-adverse, so the thought of not having a steady income was a big deterrent for me. Once I finally realized I no longer wanted to be a corporate executive, I sat my family down, and we made a decision for me to start my own business.
When I got divorced in 2007, I lost everything, my house, my car, most of my belongings. I had to file for bankruptcy, and I moved into a two-bedroom apartment with my two small children. It was rough. There were times I couldn’t pay my rent, but we figured out how to be happy and enjoy what we had. That experience made me stronger and more determined to be independent and able to support myself and my children. Fast forward 16 years, and you can see the progress and the challenges we overcame.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
EncompassHR began providing human resource consulting services to DFW and the Dallas Metroplex small businesses in 2021 with a focus in HR strategy development, planning, implementation, and oversight. We specialize in infrastructure review and development, process and policy development, full department audits, as well as strategic alignment of department goals. We offer leadership and employee development training and employee coaching that includes mentorship and professional communication.
I believe my boutique-style approach sets me apart from other consulting firms. I specialize in customization of the client’s needs and structure their packages to bring results unique to them.
We also offer employee coaching. This is a niche offering that allows businesses to help employees move into new roles or to help employees get back on track. This type of coaching and mentorship will help with employee retention and satisfaction.
Any big plans?
I am looking to pivot my business to more training and coaching. I am also looking at more speaking opportunities that will get me on stages and in front of more audiences. I believe I bring a unique solution to retention and employee satisfaction to the marketplace. I also beleive that my story can help inspire other women and encourage them to find their passions and follow their dreams. It is never too late to do what you love.
