Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Halliday.
Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always considered myself a creative individual. At a very young age I was drawing floor plans, decorating my bedroom in different ways, painting, creating…and I just really enjoyed art and the pretty things! I landed myself at UNT and received a degree in Interior Design and a minor in Hospitality. I worked professionally for several years and loved it, but then started a family.
I made my kids my priority and decided it was time to leave my career to be with them. I ended up devoting many years to volunteer work. Most of that work included event planning and family/community engagement. I learned over the years, that community, gathering, and connection is incredibly important to me.
I love hosting events that bring people together!
I adore all the details and decorating that go into making an event extra special and memorable. Presentation and setting the perfect “vibe” make a difference in the success of an event.
Its makes perfect sense to me that I would navigate myself to where I am today, owning my own event planning company, Modern Whimsy Luxury Picnics & Event Co. I love the creative outlet this business provides me, and the opportunity to work with clients in making their celebrations one to remember!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting your own business is not for the faint of heart. While it is incredibly exciting to be your own boss, it also comes with a lot of lessons in time management, marketing, business planning, budgeting, communication, and sales. I am incredibly thankful that I have the support of my husband, family, and friends who want to see me succeed. They are the true inspiration that keeps me working hard and moving forward.
Lots of positive self-talk is key as well!

Our company, Modern Whimsy Luxury Picnics & Event Co., provides a one-of-a-kind, unique, and stand-out celebration. We specialize in full-service luxury picnic set-ups. The luxury picnic trend really took off during the pandemic when gathering outside and in small groups was preferred. While the “insta” worthy luxury picnic trend continues, we are now hosting larger picnic parties up to 24 guests.
They are perfect for bridal or baby showers, birthday celebrations, graduation, and corporate events.
However, luxury picnics are also perfect for a unique date night, anniversary, proposal, or simply treating yourself to something a little extra with friends. No matter the occasion, a luxury picnic is just the way to celebrate!
We plan parties big and small, for children and adults, we don’t limit ourselves only to luxury picnics, we can also provide linens, place settings, and table decor without the picnic-style set-up for any event. We have built several vendor relationships to help with all aspects of your event, food, balloons, entertainment, etc.
We set ourselves apart from others by our attention to detail, understanding your vision, going above and beyond, and reliability to make it all happen. We do the planning and heavy lifting, so you can enjoy yourself and guests during your event.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis definitely brought to the surface how incredibly important it is to connect with each other. To be with others, to celebrate, and to be thankful for each other. We all need to make our time count, and not let precious moments go to waste. The pandemic also taught us ways to adapt and create new ways to connect with each other. (Hello Zoom!) I like to think the luxury picnic trend has been one of those ways as well. People are amazing and creative, and we love being in the people business!
