Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Robbins.
Hi Mindy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015 my dietary struggles hit a new low. I had suffered food allergies my whole life but was forced to stop eating certain foods altogether. In 2018, my daughter Ruby was diagnosed with food allergies and was told she could no longer enjoy her favorite sweets because they all included dairy and other allergens. This especially puts a damper on special moments and celebrations.
Over the next several months, we became more and more frustrated by the lack of quality treats. So, I modified and removed allergens from some of my favorite recipes so that Ruby and I could once again have yummy desserts. I got into the habit of making two versions of desserts for every celebration – one version for the main party, and another allergy-friendly version for me and Ruby.
During the pandemic lockdown, I was able to refine my recipes so that the allergy-free recipes were just as good as the traditional versions. On our wedding anniversary, I made just one chocolate cake for the whole family to enjoy. It was a huge hit – especially with my husband who does not have any food allergies.
Since then, I have developed several allergy-friendly recipes that everyone loves. It is my goal to make delicious food that everyone can enjoy together, regardless of food allergies or other dietary requirements.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a baked goods company has been a wonderful mix of exciting times with lots of twists and turns. I feel very blessed that there is a great demand for my brownies.
Scaling to meet demand is a challenge. To solve this, I have created a shelf-stable brownie to sell in retail and grocery stores. The current challenge is to find a local manufacturer that will work with me at my current volume. Many retailers are interested in selling my product, so solving this production challenges will be an exciting milestone.
I am especially excited to solve this challenge because it will allow me to expand my product line to include other baked goods that have been so popular with friends and family.
We’ve been impressed with Happy Sparkles Treats, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Happy Sparkles Treats specializes in premium gluten-free brownies.
We are most proud that our brownies taste better than “regular” brownies. Our customers frequently ask us if our products are really gluten, dairy, nut, and soy-free because they just can’t believe that they taste so good. Most of our recurring customers do not have food allergies – they just love our baked goods!
I am devoted to making allergy-friendly desserts widely accessible and enjoyable by all, by turning Happy Sparkles Treats into a household brand, I am determined to show consumers that gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and soy-free can be FULL of flavor, quality ingredients, and delectable consistency. This is the Happy Sparkles Treats mission.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I see an opportunity and go for it! Starting a new packed goods company can be seen a risky, but I see it as extremely rewarding. Launching Happy Sparkles Treats has fulfilled me beyond my expectations. What started as a few simple recipes my daughter can enjoy has turned into a brand of baked goods that everyone loves! Hearing how much people enjoy our brownies keeps me moving forward.
