Inspiring Conversations with Sisters Connect

Hello Sisters Connect, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in the summer of 2021. Folake was having a pop-up for her clothing line VFS Closet, and Uyi was the planner for the event. Folake’s friend Monica attended and Folake introduced her to Uyi because she thought as much as they are alike in creativity that they should definitely link up. A discussion between the three came about executing a big pop-up event for various women-owned small businesses to come and showcase their work. Sometime later, as our first meeting was approaching, Uyi thought it best to include her friend Faith to join in based on her organizational skills. The meeting went extraordinarily well. After seeking some expert advice about planning the pop-up, the decision was made to at least make a name for ourselves and start an Instagram page. Over time it blossomed into a platform catered to women-owned small businesses promoting specials, showcasing products and services, and also offering beneficial business and empowerment tips. Although we did have a Networking Brunch earlier this year, we are still in the process of having our first Pop-Up Event next year. So please stay tuned.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being that we are entrepreneurs and working women, scheduling has been one of our biggest challenges. We are four strong and intelligent women with similar morals and beliefs. At the same time, we possess different personalities. It’s an interesting dynamic when we do work together, which proves to work well based on our success so far.

We’ve been impressed with Sister Connect, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a resourceful platform whose purpose is to promote and empower women-owned small businesses. We specialize in those just starting out and those who’ve already started but need acceleration in their growth. It makes us proud when we hear feedback from those we have impacted. What sets us apart is that we are focused on the goal of inspiring, connecting, and empowering others like us. We care about the positive impact we can place on someone else’s passion.

What’s next?
We are currently working on a website which will feature a lot more resources and tips. It will include a user-friendly directory of various businesses. As previously mentioned, we will be having a major Pop-Up Event that will host a lot of the incredible businesses here in the Metroplex. We also have more developments in the works, but we won’t divulge too much on those, so please stay tuned.
