Hi Tammy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I always knew I wanted to help people. I come from a family of nurses. I started as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) while going to the University of Florida, where I obtained my Bachelor’s in Sociology in 2009. I then went back to school to obtain my bachelor’s in nursing science from Western Governors University. I achieved and passed boards as a Family Nurse Practitioner and received my master’s in science from South University in 2015.
I have been practicing in this role for seven years. However, when COVID-19 hit the disparities that I have witnessed in my community got worse. I was often stressed out and felt unsupported in my past role. So, I decided to create my own table. I started Lumin Diagnostic Services, Llc, to bring top notch healthcare back to the people.
We meet clients wherever they are! Allowing healthcare to be accessible and affordable to all of us. We also do community outreach events and partner with local companies to get our communities healthier.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been stressful at times. I do have entrepreneurs in my family; However, no one has done anything related to healthcare at that time. We have had staffing woes. At one point I was working every day of the week for months! We have had billing issues and our mobile unit had some mechanical problems. Sometimes I would say to myself “what in the world did I get myself into!” I have cried, laughed hysterically, and danced with sheer delight. It has been messy and hard, BUT God, has it been rewarding! When my patients smile and they take that deep sigh of relief or offer their kind remarks, I know I am doing exactly what I was made to do. I rely heavily on my faith. The song that always gets me back on target is Oceans by Hillsong. My husband who is the Co-founder of Lumin Diagnostic Services, Llc has been a rock amid storms and the voice of reason on many occasions.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have learned that the beauty is in the collaborations. Build together. Do not be scared. Create your table and invite others to sit and eat with you! There is more than enough for everyone. Pound the pavement, market your brand, host events. Function with humility, integrity, and honesty. Always put God first and keep your eyes on him. I promise if you do, he will allow you to walk on water!
