Today we’re excited to introduce you to Keicia Shanta. Keicia is a Sustainable Fashion + Clean Beauty + Lifestyle Content Creator / Editorial Fashion Stylist and is also a content partner. She and her team share her story with us below:
Keicia started the blog FashionCrush in 2012 with the plan of just talking about her hunt for trendy fashion finds that don’t break the bank. That blog quickly grew into much more with her first editorial fashion collaboration with southern retail chain Belk.
Keicia soon went on to create fashion editorials for Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Hibbett Sports. Her tenacity to bring fashion more mainstream in the South lead her to work in the role as Public Relations Director for Magic City Fashion Week in Birmingham, Alabama. In that job she worked closely with emerging fashion designers in landing written and on-air media coverage highlighting their brands on a national stage.
Keicia and the entire team at MCFW championed diversity and inclusion for all three runway seasons by featuring models and fashion designers from all colors of the spectrum. Working with these diverse creatives only heightened her interest to learn more about sustainability and how to implement its core message.
Keicia soon after committed to her sustainable fashion journey by enrolling into The London School of Fashion’s, Fashion and Sustainability program powered by Kering. Gaining these tools have enabled Keicia Shanta to work with up and coming brands that seek to become more ethical.
Keicia has been seen on FOX and ABC highlighting up and coming fashion trends, as well as print coverage in Sheen Magazine, The South China Morning Post, Authority Magazine, The Business of Business and Thrive Global.
Keicia continues to give seasonal style/trend inspiration for lifestyle brands Fab Fit Fun, HighSnobeity and Sewport.
Since we last spoke, what have you been up to?
I have made strides to launching my sustainable street style brand Smith & West. It’s my new baby !
What is a sustainable content creator and why do you choose to create from an eco standpoint?
A sustainable content creator is a creative that highlights eco fashion brands , jewelry brands and clean beauty brands.
My content centers on showing my audience how to invest in emerging fashion designers as well as well known brands. I encourage to buy better and use longer.
I believe that we have the buying power to become conscious consumers. Fast fashion not only violates basic human rights but it also contributes to child labor violations, environmental issues and so much more that is imperative to slow this industry down.
We only have one planet , we should be doing more to leave it to future generations. My kids deserve it.
What made you want to start a sustainable street wear brand?
It was always a dream of mine to start a street wear brand but the sustainable part came later.
People think that sustainability is boring in a way so I wanted to show that it can most definitely be trendy.
Why should people care about sustainability?
Everyone should care about sustainability for the sake of our planet. But again it’s a choice.
If you really care who made your clothes and what goes into your clothes then you should most definitely care about how the clothes we no longer want ends up in landfills.
Again , I cant stress enough, we only have one planet and we need to take better care of it.
Moving from Alabama to Texas how hard was it for you to transition with your business?
It was kinda hard, seeing that Texas has so many amazing content creators and creatives. So I had to find my lane and make sure I didn’t get lost in the mix.
I hit the ground running and meet some amazing women who welcomed me with open arms. Networking was a big help as well when I moved to Texas.
Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
