Today we’d like to introduce you to Abena Adu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Abena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I followed my intuition and began working in the childbirth industry in 2009, after the birth of my first child. My labor/delivery experience was not the best one and I noticed that I wasn’t alone. I would listen to the complaints of other women and I started to notice a pattern. Many women were dissatisfied with their experience, either while pregnant, in labor and/or during the postpartum phase. They’d experienced their concerns being ignored by some members in the medical establishments, a lack of support with breastfeeding, unnecessary cesareans, medical injuries, and even infant loss.
After becoming certified as a doula in 2013, I was ready to help women during childbirth, but to my surprise, I received an overwhelming response of calls from women who were suffering from fibroids, infertility, re-occurring miscarriages, PCOS, and more womb challenges. I then sought out some natural resources and began servicing clients with the vaginal steam treatments and wrote two books on womb wellness. I also founded and currently operate The Pregnancy and Womb Wellness Center in DFW.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Before helping other women, I had to step back and clearly focus on myself. I am a survivor of family violence and multi-generational sexual abuse. These both can create womb trauma and on top of that, doctors told my parents that I would not be able to have children when I was a child, but I vaginally birthed my children, easily without any complications and my last birth happened at home unassisted because labor progressed so quickly. I am a living miracle that the so-called impossible can become possible.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Pregnancy and Womb Wellness Center – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I serve women before, during, and after pregnancy. I am a lover of childbirth and have assisted over 100 women during that journey as well as with womb wellness. I travel across the country hosting womb wellness workshops, doing telephone consultations and I train other women on how to become a doula. I am most proud of my most recent accomplishment, becoming a published author.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Although my childhood was far from perfect, I was raised in a strict religious home with both hardworking parents and those two habits have kept me grounded. I have a solid spiritual foundation and I know how to maintain a good work ethic.
