Life and Work with Adrienne Mullins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Mullins.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Most people would consider me to be an extrovert. I’ve always had a bubbly, fun personality. As a result of that, I made friends easily and no one was a stranger to me. Although, I was friendly and some would even say “popular” growing up. I was a bit of a free spirit. I didn’t like the traditional things children my age enjoyed. I liked to stand out. At the time, I assumed I had high self-esteem because I didn’t care what anyone else thought of me. As I got older, I knew that wasn’t the case. I began doubting almost everything about myself based on what others said about me and what those around me had. I was never the girl with a lot of boyfriends and I took that as a reflection on my worth. The combination of low self-esteem and self-worth caused me to sink into a state of depression. I made several attempts to kill myself but the constant state of heartbreak between friends, family, and others, I felt as though I would be better off dead. Things got worse as I entered college. I was so desperate for love and affection, that any sign of attention from men, I would take. To the point, where I was raped and didn’t even realize it because I allowed myself to believe it was my fault. I tricked myself into thinking I wanted it when I didn’t. I continued giving away my body because I felt that it was the only way to keep men around. I sank into an even greater state of depression. It wasn’t until years later that I started building my relationship with God and understanding who He said I am and what I’m worth. I then decided to start a blog to share my experiences about dating in order to help other women avoid the same pitfalls. The blog then turned into a book that will be released in September. I’ve learned that my story was never true for me, but for the women who have endured similar experiences and feel as though they cannot overcome them. I am to let them know they are not alone and greater is coming!

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Some of the biggest struggles were fighting the thoughts of your past. There was a moment a year ago where I received some bad news and all of the negative thoughts came flooding back. I remember I was curled up in a ball on the floor contemplating suicide yet again. What helped me was a conversation with my mother. I told her all of the negative thoughts I was feeling and she asked me “Who said you were all of those things?” It was at that moment that I realized the only person who confirmed all of those hurtful things was me.

My advice to young women no matter what area of life, you are in control of how you view yourself. Don’t allow anyone to tell you who or what you are. You are beautiful, you are amazing, and your life does matter! We are in a position to write and redirect our stories and the time is NOW to make it all possible.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Just Being Honest – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Professionally, I am a Video Producer/Storyteller. I produce and edit stories for a large faith-based organization as well as interview people to share their stories. On a personal level, I am an author and blogger. I help young women feel encouraged and inspired by sharing my own story, experiences and life lessons. I believe by opening up and sharing my story, it can help others in realizing that one, they are not alone and two, hope is on the way. The name of my blog and brand is Just Being Honest. And that is what I’m most proud about. Having the courage to just be honest with me and others. I learned recently discovered that I was uniquely positioned by God to experience the things I experienced for the sole purpose of helping others heal. I believe the thing that sets me apart is (as cliche as it might sound) I KEEP IT REAL. I never lived the greatest Christian life, and I’m not ashamed to admit that because of the parties, relationships, mistakes, etc. made me the woman I am today and I want others to recognize the greatness inside of them too.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mentor, Rebecca Lynn Pope is definitely a woman who continues to inspire me. She helped me reach my potential. She’s the reason I actually began putting pen to paper and write my book. As a woman of God, she helps women around the world live up to their potential. Rebecca is extremely transparent and authentic, and I believe the reason why her influence reaches thousands of people is because of that.

My mom also inspires me. She is such a strong and intelligent woman. She shaped me into the woman I am today. It is because of her love and support (and sometimes harsh but needed advice) that has helped me along the way. My mom has overcome some health issues but her strength and faith in God pushed her through.
