Today we’d like to introduce you to Agnieszka Mojsiewicz.
Agnieszka, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for photography began on the other side of the camera. My dad has had a passion for photography for longer than I can remember and I know this because of the amount of photo albums we have from my childhood. As I grew up, I became obsessed with the world of theater and acting. With my dad photographing my headshots year after year for auditions and me learning from him along the way, I finally landed the opportunity to be represented by a Chicago talent agency. At the agency, I quickly learned there was a need for a headshot photographer. You might be thinking, “oh her dad will do it!” Not quite, my dad doesn’t quite speak English so instead, I picked up the camera.
After a few-hour test shoot with the agency, I got the gig! I quickly learned everything I could about my dad’s trusty Nikon D700 and photographed dozens of talented actor’s headshots in my year at the agency until I decided that I wanted to open up a studio of my own to expand my clientele. I wish I could say it was happily ever after. The studio didn’t too well. Unfortunately, during that same time, I was finishing college and landed a corporate job that took up almost all my time. Within a year of the studio’s opening, we closed shop and I stayed dedicated to my 9-5. After three years in a cubicle, however, I was promoted and offered an opportunity to move to Dallas to start up my own team. So now I’m here! I’ve called Dallas home for almost two years and have been so inspired by it that I just couldn’t wait to start taking pictures again. That’s how Agnieszka Photography was born six months ago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a curvy road with some bumps. After my studio in Chicago failed, I felt that I was pretty much done with photography and needed to just move on and be “serious” with my life. My family was born in Poland, migrated to the U.S. and settled in Chicago 21 years ago and now my husband and I ventured to Dallas alone. Moving away from family is not an easy thing to do, of course, but starting up a business (during a pandemic) with no local connections whatsoever is even harder. What was I thinking? I’ve been grateful to have joined local photographer and model groups in Dallas to help jump-start my photography business here in Dallas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a portrait photographer specializing in a vibrant, true-color and candid style. I offer photography for couples, models, families and entrepreneurs/business professionals. My unique photography sets me apart because I guarantee a fun & laid back session where we don’t use posing but rather movement and prompts to get candid shots and the result is images with colors as you remember them that day. The world’s colors and lighting is a beautiful gift to us, I let it lead the way and I keep it that way! I am proud of being able to cater my style to so many different types of shoots and absolutely killing it – from surprise proposal shoots to editorial style shoots, I’ve been doing it all. I also recently had some images published in a few digital magazines as well for my editorial work including Prestige Models Magazine and Golden Exposure Magazine. It’s just the start of my career here but I’m so excited and inspired by what Dallas has to offer!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In my short time in Dallas, I’ve learned that the city is abundant in talented people across all industries you are looking to grow within. To grow your network or find a mentor to learn from, I highly recommend searching Facebook for groups within your niche and industry and connecting with local professionals that way. That has been the single best thing that has worked for me to build my business in Dallas within just a few months. There’s always people there to bounce ideas off of, ask for advice and collaborate with. Don’t get discouraged if the first group you join is not what you hoped for. Each group has it’s own vibe and you will find one that you vibe with. You got this!
