Life and Work with Angela Eddy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Eddy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Making beauty was always so effortless for me. I enjoy anything involving art. I am addicted to creating.
After high school, I joined a small community college, it did not take me long to realize that I was not pleased with the decision I made on going to college. I wanted to create and make money at the same time. After I received my certification in cosmetology, the only thing I strived for was a success. I became obsessed with the feeling of making people love the way they look and giving them the confidence they deserve.

I currently represent a company out of Dallas called Book a Birdie. Book a Birdie is an App that allows you to book your very own personal stylist. The stylist will arrive at any location or event you desire, giving you a luxury experience all from the touch of your phone. Book A Birdie has some of Dallas’s top stylist on their team giving the best feeling of beauty possible.

When I am not representing Book a Birdie, I am investing my time traveling around the world promoting a handmade Native American jewelry line called Earlusion. Earlusion definitely takes your style to another level. leaving smiles on faces across the United States.

The look and style I provide you with will leave you satisfied and confident. It’s honestly about the small details that make such a dramatic impact on the overall look. I usually began by asking “what outfit or color scheme are we looking to achieve’? for example; I like to know what neckline, length, color, and the theme of the event or occasion my client is attending. After I gather the information for the foundation of the look, I will then start the process of creating a beautiful style that complements the body from head to toe. This involves anything dealing with fashion, some examples are hair, jewelry, make-up, shoes. By taking the time to get a view of the overall look will only give my client the boost they need to feel confident in their own skin. I label as a personal stylist because I prepare and guide my clients to the best style for events they are attending or conducting. This method will have everyone pleased.

Has it been a smooth road?
I ran into some struggles when I first started my career. I had the pleasure of opening a salon with a business partner, sadly I hit failure face on. The salon only stayed open for a year. At the time, I was so disappointed in myself and the business but I soon realized it was for the best. Having the experience of it all would only benefit me in the long run.

My next step, I took towards my career goals was going back to school to get my instructors license. While I was working as a student instructor I realized how special my talent was and how great full I was to wake up every day and do something I love. I had the pleasure of teaching and learning how to operate a cosmetology school, which only led me to master my craft and becoming the stylist I am today. Nothing came easy, I put in countless hours of hard work all while keeping my clientele base. I missed out on dinners and holidays with my family. sometimes I would not make it home before my son fell asleep and then leaving before he woke up the next morning, Was it worth it? yes it was. I worked my way up to the person I am today, without giving up.

The advice I would give to young women starting their career in the beauty industry is to stay focused on the goals you have set for yourself and your business. You must work hard for anything you want to achieve in life. Hard work does not go unnoticed, if it does, work harder. Do not give up. If you’re looking to shine, I recommend you continue to feed your mind with education as the styles change yearly. Be a trendsetter. The beauty industry is growing daily and opportunities are endless. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes find your specialty and sore to the top.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
The beauty is endless when it comes to my specialties. I specialize in event styles for weddings, photoshoots, galas, television appearances, balls, proms.

I am also an updo & braid specialist.

Master stylist in cuts and colors.

I specialize in color matching and installing all types of extensions.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
In this industry, you can never know everything. I will get together with other personal stylist and compare ideas or even practice new ones. I take extra online classes in my free time to learn how to better brand myself and the companies I represent. One of my favorite ways to network is social media. It’s a great way to meet new stylist to learn from or even build your clientele. Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube have only given me access to knowledge in my career field.
