Life and Work with Berenice Peña

Today we’d like to introduce you to Berenice Peña.

Berenice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey as a MUA all started one day when I was at my sister’s Zumba class. A lady came in offering a one on one makeup course, she sparked my interest and I just knew I had to call her. On February 7th, 2013, I had my first makeup course with her. I remember being so excited and nervous taking the little makeup that I owned including my MAC replica eyeshadow palette. Lucy Esquivel will always be a big part of my life and I will always be thankful for the day she made me realize what my true passion was. She then included me in a runway show she hosted in July 2015. I eventually started freelancing and creating a name for myself, even teaching one on one and group courses. My journey then paused when I became a full-time wife and mother of two boys: Gerardo Valentino and Vincent Peña. At the beginning of 2018, I set new goals for myself. I want to accomplish my dreams by continuing to teach, host demo and hands-on classes, learn more about hairstyling and to stay busy doing what I love. I hope to one day start a Youtube channel that shares my makeup tips and tricks with others while motivating them to pursue their dreams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The only struggle I experienced along my journey has to be balancing life and trying to do makeup tutorials. I am a mother of two and find it hard sometimes to find someone to watch them. Other than that, I have met great people that have helped me grow so much and I’m thankful for that!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Makeup Artist and Hairstylist in the DFW area. I recently got into hairstyles – and hope to learn more! I’m very proud of how far I’ve come in such a short time of me being consistent and the people I’ve met along my road that has genuinely hand me their support, being strong enough for my clients and everyone around me even though my mother is fighting cancer. I will go above and beyond for any of my clients just to see them happy and satisfied with my services.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Absolutely, growing up with divorced parents, having my grandmother raised me and my sisters since I was four years old has definitely shaped me to the woman I am today. I always have seen how my grandparents and father struggled with money due to their illegal status. It was always hard for my parents to bring in an income for our household. My grandmother is my role model in my eyes she’s the strongest and most hardworking person I know, she’s the one that motivates me to be better. I want to be able to buy their dream home one day and make them proud of the woman they raised.
