Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Vasquez.
Diana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m born and raised in Dallas. I have always had a deep love for this city and the people that live here. Growing up, I have been a creative at heart for as long as I can remember. I really took a liking to photography and I was still in high school when I started getting published in magazines and websites. There are so many opportunities in DFW to embrace your art and connect with other people. It was a dream to be able to attend events in Dallas and get to document them in my personal style.
Since then, I became a Registered Nurse and work in an Emergency Department. I realized that I had a need for a creative outlet. I reached out to contacts I knew and began working as a content creator for companies. It has been incredibly fun to work with so many restaurants and shops in Dallas-Fort Worth. I’ve learned so much about this industry and it’s changing every day.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has definitely been struggles along the way. I really had to make myself competitive to the companies I was pitching work to. I didn’t have a marketing experience that others did. I had to spend hours researching, getting certifications and networking. Once I began to get campaigns, I gained the confidence to make this a business of my own.
Everyone has an opinion that matters. If young women don’t see the job they want or see a company that represents them; they have to create their own opportunities. Women should support and build each other up. It’s the only way to create a future that has women equally represented in every field.
Please tell us about your brand.
Creating my own brand has been an adventure. I have worked on incredible campaigns for many different types of companies. From creating ads, writing for their pages, and photographing their products – I have been able to turn ideas into reality. It’s creative and rewarding work that I’m very proud to do.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Women have higher expectations and less support professionally. There is no lack of qualified women in the industry so opportunities for women shouldn’t be hard to come by. Women have the power to change this by supporting one another.
