Life & Work with Erin Malone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Malone.

Erin Malone was embarrassed by a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. She was having trouble in school both academically and behaviorally and was dealing with constant negative self-talk; but her love for art never waned.

Erin’s mom, Sherrie Jackson asked her daughter if she wanted to turn her creative interest into a business. In 2018, at eight years old, she birthed her successful accessories business called “Essentials from Erin”. Now at ten years old, not only does she run her business, she creates custom jewelry rather than just buying and re-selling. At ten years old, Erin believes one day she will overcome her ADHD. Erin is saving her profit for the art studio she’d like to open one day while also donating some of her profits to charity. Sherrie’ Jackson believes encouraging her daughter to pursue something she already had a talent for helped banish the negativity that plagued her after her ADHD diagnosis.

Months after opening her own business, Erin’s people skills have improved, her confidence is up and she is involved in helping her community—and Sherrie’ Jackson recently watched her daughter accept her second Perseverance Award at Southridge Elementary two years after working her business, Erin is now a straight “A honorable student”, speaks highly of herself, focuses more in school on one thing at a time tremendously. Her business has helped her with perseverance through trial and error, commitment and focus through making high vibrational bracelets, self-confidence by speaking with thousands of people at her vendor events along with her supporter’s encouragement, she learned to reiterate positive affirmations even more through her Life Coach in Dallas TX, “Utopya Speaks” and visualizing in detail what features her Art Gallery may look through “Kids Art War” competition painting at “Wright Art Twins Gallery” in Dallas TX and attending various “Painting With A Twist” Locations” in the DFW Metropolis. That’s the purpose of Erin’s business, Sherrie’ Jackson says: “to inspire kids and adults to never give up no matter what.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Initially negative self talk waa challenging for me and giving up easily. I lacked in proper social skills, I received C’s and some failing grades due to lack of focus, I had challenges staying on task and completing one entire task; a major challenge for me is following directions as I am continuously working on that and believing in myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in painting and making custom jewelry. At eight years old, one of my Art paintings was recognized in the Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater. At 10 years old, I visited several different Art galleries to paint such as “Painting With A Twist” at various DFW locations. I also have begun painting at “Wright Art Twins” Gallery in Dallas, TX. Wright Art Twins Gallery has “Art War” Competitions for kids on certain days. I won first place and I was really excited about that. Painting overall allows me to express my good and bad emotions freely and helps me learn to be more creative and still.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would recommend my Life Coach Utopya Walker. On Social media platforms he is known as “Utopya Speaks.” Utopya is a Life Coach, Spiritual Transformation Coach, Motivational Speaker, Poet and Youth Advocate. Due to him being so well rounded in these areas he has been able to transform my mind.

For example, advising me on how to respond to my self critic, not beating myself up for making mistakes, being consistent with my personal goals that we have set together through my sessions, helping me with proper etiquette and so much more. I would also encourage parents, if they have insurance to look into behavioral specialist or ask their PCP (Primary Care Physician) for resources. Find a way to express your frustration/anger/sadness into something that will benefit you; For example, I paint. Surrounding yourself with positive influences is very important. I always find ways to keep pressing forward because “The master has failed more times than the beginner has tried.” No one can become a master without first failing a number of times.
