Life and Work with Kyla Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Martin.

Kyla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I spent the majority of my career in high-tech corporate America successfully climbing the corporate ladder. Yet, the higher I climbed, the more unhappy I became.

Have you ever seen that movie “failure to launch” with Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Parker? There’s a great scene in which Matthew McConaughey’s characters starts to become misaligned with the universe. A dolphin drags him underwater, a vegetarian lizard bites him, a chipmunk attacks him. His life was out of alignment and the universe was responding.

That’s exactly what was happening to me. I started to experience a tremendous amount of health problems including debilitating migraines. I started to have trouble sleeping. The things that used to make me happy, no longer were making me happy. I knew I had to do something. And so, I embarked up on a journey, the journey to find my purpose – and ultimately my perfect sweet spot. And today, I share those life-changing approaches I used in hopes they will give my clients the building blocks for clarity of purpose so they too can live the life they imagined.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My own journey to becoming a Purpose and Career Coach is what prepared me to coach others. I had to experience all of the up’s and down’s to truly understand and ultimately coach, someone else.

I had several false starts as an entrepreneur, but my biggest roadblock was my self-imposed fear.

For me, knowing myself was the key to knocking down the roadblocks. I need to be surrounded by my rational brain – aka the truth. So, I started writing down the truth. I began looking at the past 25 years and physically wrote down the most joyful moments in my professional life, my successes, my strengths, what people said about the way I coached them, managed them or helped them find their purpose. I kept it in my phone, I printed it out and put on my fridge, I carried it around in my journal so, in moments of my own panic and fear, I would be reminded of the truth. I also followed the Stephen Covey model of “start with the end in mind.” I created a life outcomes plan and then began developing milestones for 90 days, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years – all the way to my life outcomes. I now use that model in my coaching business.

My advice to women starting their own journey is to 1) listen to their “higher” vs. “lower” brain. Your higher brain says, “you have overcome things before and you will figure this out!” Your lower brain says, “you might fail so don’t even try.” Your higher brain ALWAYS has your best interests at heart. Listen to it! 2) Start small. Start a side hustle. Take a baby step. Get some momentum and build from there.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kyla Martin Coaching – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am truly honored to help my clients uncover and live the life they imagined! I pinch myself every day.

My coaching philosophy to live the life you imagined includes:

1. Uncovering your true self
Finding out exactly what you were put on this planet to contribute is our first task together.

2. Creating attraction
The universe rises to meet our intention so “showing up for what’s showing up” and using an abundance lens attracts what’s in our heart of hearts.

3. Overcoming fear
I believe fear is the only thing that separates us from the life we imagined so you’ll get the tools to conquer that fear.

My coaching approach includes:
• Uncovering and clarifying the “sweet spot” of your life, including personality and “purpose” assessments
• Life outcome visioning – 50 years, 90 days, and everything in between for a clear path
• Action plan implementation and accountability

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The world is literally your oyster. Try it all! So much of our society has a “belief system” that there is one clear path to success and that’s simply not true. And because much of our society has that belief system (that comes from fear) they try to impose that same belief system on young people. If you read any “advice from the end of life,” the same themes emerge — I wish I had traveled more, loved more, tried more and worried less.

I love that our younger generations are trying several careers, experiences, and businesses. That’s how we evolve as humans.
