Life and Work with Liz Morrison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Morrison.

Liz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I started Witty n Pretty, it was actually a college assignment- start a blog and document your life. So, I did. And never stopped. I knew absolutely nothing about blogging when I started. Over the last 4 years or so, I’ve had to dive in and learn about creating content, taking photos, SEO and marketing. This has helped me not only grow my blog little by little but also a career managing content for companies.

Now, I’m just enjoying writing about my life here in Dallas (I’m a native Marylander), fashion finds, and mental health topics.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life’s rarely a smooth ride! My blogging journey is still a bit rocky. Style bloggers are in a unique position in that they’re all fighting for sponsorships from brands and they have to make their Instagram feeds and blogs as polished as possible to be noticed. It can really wear you down when you constantly compare your social feed to someone else’s and wonder why you’re not as popular. I try to remember that blogs and such are highlight reels and not reality.

For women just starting out, I think it’s important to realize that you’re not perfect and your blog or social profile doesn’t have to be either. You’ll make yourself crazy otherwise.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Witty n Pretty – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
On my blog Witty n Pretty, I focus largely on style and mental health. I’ve had my own share of mental health problems and think it’s important to open the dialogue and normalize talking about the topic. However, I mix in a few style blogs as well- fashion will always be my passion!

I also freelance write when I can. I’m actually a guest writer for the Inpathy Bulletin- a mental health blog.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
One big opportunity I think a lot of women miss is the ability to build each other up! There’s a lot of dialogue about how society keeps women from reaching their goals. That can certainly be the case, but I’ve experienced women preventing each other from being all they can be! We have the opportunity to lift each other up whether that be with an encouraging word or job promotion.
