Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorren Thomas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lorren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m proudly Dallas born and bred. When people ask what I do for a living, I love to tell them that I am Public Relations Professional, Social Business Strategist, and Influencer Marketing Maven. I started my career out in Customer Experience and was quickly able to pivot to Public Relations as I realized that I had a love for helping people amplify their message.
With experience from social media strategy to media relations, I have recently found my “sweet spot” with influencer marketing. I currently help manage the Influencer Marketing programs at Southwest Airlines which includes everything from talent discovery, vetting, negotiations, execution and reporting.
In my spare time, I enjoy lending my voice and expertise to issues related to diversity in communications and representation in the media. I am passionate about helping underrepresented voices gain platforms to share their perspectives and creating safe spaces to share their stories. I also love to travel (beach please!), try new restaurants, and provide Public Relations consulting to small businesses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been ups and downs in my career journey. A lot of it had to do with my fear of “self-promotion”- I was scared to promote my wins or accomplishments because I did not want to come off as boastful or entitled. It was not until I overcame this fear that I really started seeing my career takeoff.
My advice to women who are just starting their journey would be that self-promotion is not bragging or boasting. It is perfectly okay to be proud of your accomplishments and share them with others. It’s okay to be your own advocate. It’s okay to bet on yourself. Because if you don’t, you can’t always depend on others to do it for you. Your career path is a game of chess, not checkers. It’s important to be strategic and invest in yourself.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
After realizing that many entrepreneurs don’t always have large budgets and resources to hire a Public Relations agency to help them garner exposure, I decided to help fill that void. I consult and provide resources for startups and small businesses to help them maximize their visibility.
My goal is to help entrepreneurs craft authentic messages in a unique way that results in organic brand exposure, visibility, and positive brand perception.
