Life and Work with Maria Castle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Castle.

Maria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Maria, I also go by the name of Maria Maria. I grew up in a small town in Michigan, raised by two Cosmetologist, and slowly becoming one too. I always knew I wanted to leave Michigan and travel the world. First stop Dallas, TX. Before I moved, I worked three jobs and saved every little penny. I was so determined to leave only 19 years old. I packed up my tiny room at my mother’s house and put everything in my car, paid to get it shipped, and once my plane landed in Texas, my car was ready to for me to drive. I worked at many beauty stores as Brand Ambassador and Beauty Advisors until I noticed that this isn’t what I want to do anymore. So now, I’m in school at The Salon Boutique Academy in the cosmetology program, with less than 1000 hours to go. I ultimately want to be my own boss.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was finding my purpose. Once I Isolated myself from friends, family, and distractions, to focus on myself and what my purpose here on this earth is. I grew closer to Christ and that was the best thing I ever did. Proud of myself and my faith. I didn’t believe I could make any of this happened. That all changed after I discovered my purpose (building confidence and women through beauty and making them feel unstoppable). My mother was my ultimate support system. Leaving her in Michigan was the hardest thing but I wanted more for myself and my family. I have a little sister and nieces that look up to me, I want them to know that anything is possible if you believe and start pushing and working hard for what you want in life. Nothing comes easy. You have to work. Nothing was handed to me, I worked hard because I know I want, and I know nothing happens overnight. There are going to be many obstacles but you have to know it’s all temporary. My advice to anyone that’s struggling to start is to write it out on paper so you can express what you want, and actually visualize it, make vision boards. The best thing is to go for it. Before I moved to Texas everyone doubted me and always ask “why are you leaving?” My answer to that question till this day is “ WHY NOT ? WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE ?” so just go for it and jump off the deep end. I’m most proud of how far I’ve gotten just by my faith and believing in myself.

Please tell us about Maria Maria: Hair, Makeup, Nails.
I’m a future Cosmetologist, when I’m asked what I want to specialize in I say “EVERYTHING.” I want to be the very best in every area of cosmetology. I want to do it all, I never want to limit myself, because although it’s not a trend now, eventually, it’ll come back. But at the moment, I am a spray tan specialist in Highland Park giving flawless and sunless glowing tans and teeth whitening. Also I am excepting new hair, nails, and makeup clients to build my clientele.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Not to give up on yourself no matter what your situation may be. Although it gets rough, you should never stop believing and fighting for what you want. Just remember all of this is temporary. Keep pushing through and don’t look back ever.
