Today we’d like to introduce you to MarQui’ Hopkins (Style MarQui’).
MarQui’, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey working in Fashion started in the early 90s while still attending high school, I’ve been a part of the industry for decades holding titles such as Director Of Sales & Marketing, Fashion Buyer, District Store Manager, Visual Merchandising Manager & Fashion Stylist for some of the top Retailers and Vintage Boutiques in The U.S. My past experience and education has abled me to currently hold roles such as Luxury Vintage Buyer, Editorial Stylist and E-commerce Planning Manager for Boutiques in the United Kingdom, while still Styling Clients across the Nation.
I’ve always wanted to start my own fashion business so, I launched Style MarQui’ in 2012, Vintij By MarQui’ Online Boutique in 2014 and Vintique Noir in 2018.
I truly love working in the fashion industry, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else at this point in my life. I enjoy styling my clients, traveling the globe buying beautiful vintage clothing for women, it gives me great pleasure knowing that what I do, inspire so many.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My experience in the fashion industry as an entrepreneur has been challenging in the past, when it came to financial budgeting, my entire brand is solely funded by myself. Building a successful brand is very expensive, it cost money for inventory, marketing, traveling, fashion shows and such.
Please tell us about your work.
I’m an Editorial Stylist, Luxury Vintage Fashion Buyer, Global Brand Ambassador & Photographer.
I specialize in selling vintage clothing from the 1940s to 1980s.
My work consist of styling clients for editorials and lifestyle photoshoots which most of the photos are shot by me. I’m constantly on my phone and laptop working on marketing strategies for my clients and my own brand.
I have a very busy schedule I also travel weekly to buy unique vintage clothing while still managing to conduct my two online boutiques.
Who have you been inspired by?
I’ve always been inspired by the stylish women in my family, fashion magazines and from my two style icons: Diana Ross & Donna Summer.
