Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Miller.
Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Grew up in rural America, homeschooling before homeschooling was a thing – so socially isolated.
Went to college, loved people – watched to “game” popularity… made studying people a science, got popular. Got a degree in social studies.
Graduated, started working for $9 an hour at a call center – convincing people not to cancel their service. Loved talking to people. Loved the job.
Started teaching in rural Texas. Loved that job too! Made $26,800 a year. Could not afford childcare after I started having kids so I became a stay-at-home-mom.
Felt isolated. Not going to go back to isolation again!! ha!
Started my first business, a blog… mostly as a way to connect to others. Turns out, I am not the only one seeking connection… the blog exploded. We got 10 million page views a month at our high point. I grew the Facebook page to 2.2 million fans.
Left that (sold it) and built my second site to 2+million pageviews a month and 500,000+ Facebook fans… and then went and did it two more times with two more sites/businesses… and I realized I had a gift.
Don’t keep your gifts to yourself. Part of being a good steward is helping others with your gifts.
So now, I teach others to grow their own audiences. We have helped over 4,000 businesses GROW real audiences.
Ultimately, I see myself as a people collector or connector. I help people find other people just like them and make a difference in the world through the micro-communities they create with their businesses.
Other fun tidbits.
We built a school (for 300+ kids) and some wells in Kenya.
I am a mom of six kids.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Right before I started my businesses, I was a teacher, and I had to leave teaching as I couldn’t pay for daycare…
And then, I found out that my daughter had a weird collection of food allergies and it was severe and she needed specialized formula, a formula that insurance would not cover. We barely had enough to pay for our regular expenses, and there was no way we could cover the formula – it was hundreds of dollars every month. We were already down to one car, we had given up our TV… I felt like there was nothing else to sacrifice, no more corners we could cut.
I remember going to my parents and asking them to pay the bill, hanging up the phone after they said yes, crying, and feeling like a failure. That period of my life was one of my lowest. I thought my options were “out” I could not work a regular job as I had infant children… so there was nothing I could do to “fix” the situation our family was in… or so I thought.
The cool thing about being at the bottom, the absolute bottom is that there is only UP. There is only better. When you wipe the tears, look past the frustration, all I had was a possibility.
I would go back to that “me” who was 25 and thinking that I was at the end and say look at all the potential you have waiting for you-you have nothing but God and “up”. Pray. Wipe your tears off… then stand up and take the first step to make something – to do something with your spare time. After that, take the next step, and the next.
If you had told that mom (me) that ten years later I would be running a seven-figure a year business, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes. Being homeschooled (growing up with fewer interactions) meant that I LOVE and obsessed about creating connections to people. I made being social into a science… studied social economics… and I know that those studies led to a love of analytics and helped me grow my business on social media.
Today, I sell a course that helps people build MASSIVE audiences – these audiences make selling their products and getting the word out about their businesses so much easier.

- My course is $997
