Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Michele.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I run a blog called Oh So Michele. I am also a DJ, my stage name is DJ So Luxe. I started my blog in the fall of 2018. I officially launched my blog on my birthday July 1, 2019. It took me a while due to I did everything on my own, except for design my logo. I started back writing to help me thru a tough time. I use writing as a way of therapy. It eventually lead me to write a book of poetry that is related to what I was going thru at the time. From there, I decided to start a blog to share my likes with individuals who have the same interests. In my blog, I write about life experiences. I also post about beauty, my travels, food, and fashion! I am also an up and coming DJ. I am an avid music lover and have always wanted to learn so I decided this year is my year. I enrolled at the Keep Spinning DJ Academy this summer. I also cohost a podcast with two of my good friends called The Queen Zone where we talk about everyday issues, love, relationships, etc. You can check it out on Anchor, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast, Spotify, and all other podcasting platforms.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was not a smooth road to getting my blog started, As I stated before, I did everything on my own, I bought my domain and built my website from the ground up. If you aren’t a big technical person, it can be very hard and time-consuming. Some things I just could not get or do. I am still not quite satisfied with it and am always working to make it better. I would get so frustrated and would stop for periods of time. I also work full time so that was another time constraint. I knew I wanted to launch ASAP, so I did not quit. It still took some time and I ended up pushing myself so that I could launch on my birthday on July 1. My advice to others wanting to start a blog is to JUST DO IT! Keep going and never give up! I knew I wanted this so I kept going no matter what obstacles came my way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Oh So Michele – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My niche for my blog is fashion, food, lifestyle, and travel. I like to share trends that I love and I know others can relate to. What I am most proud of with my brand is the ability to relate to what women love! What sets me apart is that I also DJ. I know I am not the first to blog and DJ, but you will not find many bloggers in DFW who do both. Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Yes, I do feel sometimes women are overlooked for certain opportunities. Being a woman of color, we can be overlooked even more than white women. I don’t want to make it about race, but the truth is the truth. I hear about it a lot now that I am in this blogger/influencer world, especially when it comes to how brands pay white influencer more than they would a POC influencer. But overall, I feel women are capable of every opportunity that they think men are better qualified for and women are becoming entrepreneurs at a faster rate than men!
