Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Woodson.
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born August 5th, 1988 in Shreveport, LA but I was raised all over Dallas, TX. I’ve always been a huge fan of many different genres of music since as far back as I can remember. That love for music became the gateway for me to create my own sound, so when I was about 15 my older brother Xavier “Zay” Woodson & I created a duo “Extra Clip.” By the time I graduated from Seagoville H.S. in 2006, I was well into my 2nd project and ready to do more despite the fact that my brother didn’t want to rap anymore. 2007 I met the founder of IBUM (I Beat Up Monkey) Michael “Foolish” Mathis, which soon became my partner in crime & we formed a group named “Tha Villains.” Around 2011 is when Foolish passed me the torch & I ran with it linking with various street promoters such as Kuwn Dalini (R.I.P.) & Spaceship Ohayses to help stamp my name as a musical artist. 2013 I strengthened the foundation of I.B.U.M. by adding two more thriving individuals Ricky “Beaux Sosa” Burney from Dallas, TX & Jason “Muddboi Sin” Jefferson from Jackson, MS. Since then, we’ve been in the lab like rats practicing, experimenting & perfecting our craft to adapt to the new age but sticking to our roots as well. Morphing our life stories with sounds from producers such as Stan Middel, Buddbeatz, in-house work from Muddboi Sin, myself, and many more, we were able to have as wide of a range as possible to continue to create music to this day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth journey, but that’s what makes the journey that much more worth it in my opinion. Nothing in life is gonna come to you easily, it takes consistency and hard work. One of my main struggles was balancing work & family, times can get hectic being in the mix trying to pursue your dreams & sometimes we neglect things we need like the love from family. I also have dealt with insomnia since about 2010 from the loss of my uncle. I can be unintentionally awake for long periods of time which throws off my concentration & focus.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I kick wavezzZ ya dig😁🌊. Honestly, I’m known for my spacey oceanic similies & metaphors that vividly breaks down the hippie lifestyle of a Southern hustler aiming to be financially free. I feel like I specialize in creating a new point of view to different aspects in life with my lyrical but harmonic sound. The thing that sets me apart is the fact that I’m me, I stay in my own lane & have my own style. I’m representing for the new-age hippies who handle business & stand on what they believe in.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say being humble (to a certain extent) because this is a wicked industry to be in & people will try to use you up for their own benefits. Also, just being a legit human being, nobody wants to do business with fraudulent individuals no matter what the environment is.
