Life & Work with Gilde Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilde Flores.

Gilde, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out as a touring musician at the age of 17. I was in a band that was managed by the late Selena Quintanilla. I was in High School at the time, so the balance between education and passion was rough. Eventually, during my senior year at Hereford, Texas, it came to a choice between the two since I had missed too many days of school from touring the US, and education won. After this experience, I knew music was “it”; however, I had no idea what else to do but to pursue it through the eyes of a touring musician.

This led me through years of touring, sharing the stage with some of the greats, living from a suitcase, and an amazing 9-5 work history (total sarcasm). Around 27, I decided that road life was no longer for me, and some years later, I took on the role of a Sound Engineer for a recording studio in Lubbock, Texas, Caldwell Productions. It was here that I learned a lot about behind the scenes in music and eventually drifted into production. I ended up creating music for artist which led to my work being placed on Television in 2007. I once again took a gap of trying to figuring it all out,

After 5 solid years of working full time on my production skills while attending South Plains College and transferring over to Texas Tech University, I graduated in 2015 (with a degree NOT in music) and decided to pursue the music career full sail. During my studies, I balanced classes and music projects, networked, practiced a LOT of self-development/mindset, and focused on working in the “Visual Media” realm of music, music for TV/Film. This ultimately led me to working and befriending Grammy award-winning super producer Timothy “Timbaland” Mosley. I eventually gravitated to signing under the same management as Tim, Mono Music Group, where I find myself today. I currently work in the visual media spectrum, where I have been blessed to earn a healthy resume in both the audio and visual media industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It most definitely has NOT been a smooth road. Looking back, I realize it could have gone so much better had I gotten my perspective lens a lot sooner. I was one of those who had to learn about everything the hard way, as I played the “victim” role in about everything I walked myself into. I never really learned to see the lesson in things, and instead, always focused on the setbacks, the peaks, and valleys as a way of things, just being “my luck.”

I realize now that I gravitated to that poor kind of mindset, and so I attracted more of it since I always seem to welcome and anticipated it. I would revert to seeing things not going my way or blamed it on my “bad luck,” which had me living in defeat and led me to easily quit my way through life. With that said, going back to my earlier mention of sarcasm in relations to my work history, balancing a passion and trying to earn a living without the proper mindset can be a recipe for disaster.

So, through a lot of daily reading of self-help material (up to the present moment), I was able to re-wire my mind and change my perspective, which has allowed me to live a complete opposite life experience. I now look for the lessons in everything I encounter and always find a path that leads to the results I desire. Looking back, if I had this “perspective lens” sooner, I would have made better choices and would have resulted to where I am today much smoother.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music composer/producer specializing in the field of visual media. I mostly create music and score to picture for film, television, commercials, promotional content, theatrical trailers, and interactive media (video games). The list goes on and on for the projects I get to work on, which has given me the opportunity to work on some of my dream projects (The Wolverine being one of them), which in turn has my line of work never becoming stagnant. I do a massive amount of work with some of the biggest brands and companies, as well as highly watched and admired series and titles that I myself have to consistently nudge myself back to reality; since I consider myself a geek and getting to work on projects with brands that consumed most of my spare time/life.

I would say I am most proud of helping myself recover from a lack mentality and give all into that internal voice of guidance, which for me being a man of Faith, God. I was able to flip my life around and develop into who I have become simply by belief in oneself by cutting out all of the noise and self-made limitations. On that note, while in my academic studies at Tech, I shifted from pursuing a career as a surgical tech into the field of c/psychology. It was here where I found the realization that one can “re-wire” the brain and take control through accountability. So have to give a huge nod to the Human Science department over at Texas Tech University.

What were you like growing up?
I would say I was an extremely curious, adventurous, and imaginative child. I was never really grounded and always seemed to be drifting away into my own imagination, which now answering that explains a Lot. I was one that was always getting redirected, as I lived in this fictitious world in my own head where I performed on stages all over the world, was sometimes a movie star or my favorite action hero. I remember getting in trouble quite often in school for drifting off or playing with my rockets and space crafts (pencils and erasers) at my desk. Most of the time, I really never fit in, as I always had this thing for being inside figuring out instruments, playing by ear, and the curiosity of sound in general.

So, with all that said, it was obvious I was destined to create the life I live today and finally feel like I fit right in where I need to be.
