Meet Aamina Masood of Brilliant Cakes in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aamina Masood.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Aamina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first became interested in Pastry Arts at a young age when I used to bake with my mom. When my daughter was very young, she developed an intolerance to dairy, wheat and sugar. We had to do a complete detox.

I started experimenting with recipes and decided to go back to school to learn Pastry Arts. My first degree is in Computer Engineering. I received a scholarship to complete my associate degree in Pastry Arts and from there, I gained some experience working in the industry and various bakeries and at SMU in catering. About five years ago, I decided to officially register my business and have not looked back since.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle is balancing work and personal life. I work full time at Collin College in the culinary department. With that and my own business, life can get pretty busy.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I like to do mostly customized wedding cakes, however, I do get requests for parties and now I am expanding into other different desserts like panna cotta. What sets me apart is that I use majority organic and natural ingredients. I do not use any alcohol-based extracts and I use either kosher gelatin or fish gelatin in my desserts. I am known for my unusual and curious cakes. I am most proud of maintaining my standards and following my ethics. I work honestly and fairly with my clients providing the best service possible.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I think Dallas is a great place for small specialized businesses like myself. I think there is a great opportunity for growth and a very diverse population. It would be nice if the city could have a place where businesses could come together to show the community what is available. Not a farmers market but something like a pop-up.

Pricing:

  • Cakes start at $25
  • Cake pops $36 per dozen
  • Cookies $36 per dozen
  • Cupcakes $36 per dozen
