Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Moore.
Adam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Two passions I’ve always had were cars and technology. That being said, I knew that being a mechanic wasn’t for me at a young age, so I studied everything to do with technology that I could. I ended up to the Art Institute of Dallas getting a degree in Multimedia and Web Development, a degree not really offered any longer. By the time I graduated, it was right after the big “dot-com” bubble bursting and there weren’t really any tech jobs to be had for someone fresh out of college. I ended up working for a locally owned automotive dealer who just opened a Suzuki dealership in Dallas. Suzuki isn’t a brand being sold in the U.S. market anymore, but I worked for this company for a few years. While working there and working with and around cars, I started my own blog. Writing was never something I was great at in school, but having a blog would allow me to use my web development skills and I could begin to talk about cars that I was interested in.
After a few months of writing about whatever I could and interacting with local dealerships and other car enthusiasts on Twitter, I was invited to an event that General Motors was throwing. This was an event for the press that was going to be covering what’s coming out at the State Fair of Texas. Here I was able to network with a lot of influential people in the automotive media world as well as people inside the GM corporate world. This gave me a foothold to begin contacting other manufacturers and growing relationships with them. Over the next several years the blog really took off and we were getting upwards of 20,000 to 30,000 unique visitors a month. I had also brought on other journalists and enthusiasts to help produce content.
In 2016 I was getting burnt out on just writing and knew that the direction of everything is going toward video. I had already established a YouTube channel with a few videos but never really put in the work to grow it. So in 2016, I made the decision that I would go full-time YouTube with my own content while still maintaining the website and posting articles from our other contributors. I’ve been publishing videos consistently on YouTube for the past three years and have grown the channel to just over 3,000 subscribers at the time of writing this.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. I’ve struggled with burnout and wanting to completely stop the website. Moving into the YouTube space has helped with that a lot. I’m back to being more creative. I like the tech side of camera gear and knowing what it takes to film a quality video. I like the creative side of video editing and giving the audience more to look at than just a guy talking about cars to a camera. I also still love keeping up to date with the website and designing layouts for articles there as well as doing some development work when I can.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TXGARAGE – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The company is called TXGARAGE, or Texas Garage. We are a media and entertainment company that provides automotive reviews, automotive news coverage, and coverage of automotive events here in Texas. Most of the big automotive journalists live in California, Michigan, or the North East and I love bringing a Texas perspective for Texas consumers.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Dallas. I’ve traveled all over the U.S. for events and family vacations and I couldn’t think of a better city to live in. We have great art and a thriving technology sector that I love interacting with when downtown. The biggest downside, for me, to living in Dallas is there are no great driving roads around the DFW area. Head far enough south and you’ll hit the Hill Country with great roads, east and you’ll get large trees and more scenic routes, but here in DFW, it’s mostly flat and way too crowded.
