Meet Alejandra Gonzalez of Mextilo ~ Artisanal Fashion in Grapevine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Gonzalez.

Alejandra, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Mexico, in the state of Coahuila. I studied BS in Electrical Engineering, I have a full-time job as Project Safety Engineer, and I am an Entrepreneur. I am also a wife and a busy Mom of two little girls. I love what I do, and always looking for new challenges and opportunities.

Since I was little, loved and admired the talent of our Mexican Artisan and my passion to share our culture. The fact about living abroad for over 20 years has changed me in so many ways, that the love and appreciation for my culture and heritage have become stronger.

I started in the passion for fashion about eight years ago, my sister and I are business partners, and we have a small boutique in our hometown. Last year, I decided to bring the fashion business and create Mextilo, my own online store here in Dallas. Mextilo ~ Artisanal Fashion was born to share and spread the love for the beautiful artisanal creations from Mexico, to help empower the economy of our artisans, working directly with them and doing fair trades is one of my main ideas.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is definitely not an easy task and it is something you have to work and build constantly. I am still building it and always ready to listen any advice to improve it.

I always try to build positive momentum by breaking down the challenge into smaller – do-able tasks. Resilience and persistence are important to remember while facing challenges life throws your way. And one of my favorite quotes: “Never stop doing your best just because someone doesn’t give you credit”.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Mextilo – Artisanal Fashion was born to spread the love for the artisanal creations. My main objective is to trade with local and talented Mexican artisans to promote the cultural richness and enjoy the colors of the culture. The idea of Mextilo is to bring unique and authentic handmade artisan clothing, jewelry, bags, shoes and more. Every piece you buy is handmade from the heart, made with love!

My main goal is to bring beautiful and authentic pieces to a fair price so everybody can enjoy them, and the most important thing, to work directly with artisans, family-owned businesses, and offer them a fair trade for the amazing work they do. Appreciate their work, show their work and embrace the culture.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe the DFW area is a great area in general to start a business.
