Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Lopez.
Hi Alexa, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been the one who paid attention to detail in life, from figuring out what I was going to do after high school, I knew I wanted to be different, and not follow a 9-5 or work at an office. I felt as if there was much the world has to offer me, and I was going to go out there and figure it out, my mom did cosmetology when she was younger as well so I picked up from her, I am the oldest of 4 girls, I loved fashion and DIY-ing my own things, so let’s say I was creative. I went to cosmetology school and finished it less than a year straight after I worked in a Latina-based salon, I learned a lot, absorbed so much knowledge of who I wanted to be as a hairstylist, and what I didn’t want to be as a hairstylist. I’ve attended lots of education classes, met so many artists, clients who I’m able to sprinkle some motivation and inspiration. In a very saturated field that I’m in I believe staying authentic gets you to places you’re meant to be. I’m still not yet where I want to be, but if you asked me 5 years ago what I wanted I wouldn’t believe how far I’ve made it now. I’m at least experiencing one of my prayers I’ve prayed about before.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a curvy, bumpy road, some of the struggles I phased along the way in my journey, was that I had one of my parents get deported as a first-generation that was a lot of pressure to me, although I still had the full support of my mother, emotionally, financially we all struggled. It’s unfortunate when these things happen to you and your family, I never thought we would have gone through it, but it made me a strong individual now, mentally. Things in life aren’t permanent you just have to do your best in the day we have now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist and I specialize in dimensional brunettes, and hand-tied extensions, although I’ve done every color for hair, I would say I have a passion for a rich brunette-colored hair or a dimensional blonde. Hand-tied extensions are a very big transformations that I love as well my clients love this method of hair. I would say my creative Instagram making content relatable to stylists, and the way I connect with my clients in a more intimate and relatable way sets me apart.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see myself growing mentally and spiritually, my career is by far my most favorite thing to do in my life and I always want to find the joy of it. Creating classes to educate other hairstylists about social media, and marketing would be a goal of mines I want to share my ideas, and what has helped me. If God willing, I see myself owning an all-Latina salon, with other talented women in the beauty industry field.
