Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Kretschmar.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up I always loved exploring different mediums, and had a wonderful art teacher in high school that really encouraged and pushed me to try everything. I majored in Apparel Design in college and minored in Business in college. I found myself in a semester of all business classes, and felt like something was missing. I needed a creative outlet. I went to the local art store and got my creative juices flowing, again using an array of mediums to get back in the groove of things. It was then I realized that I should always be working on something creative to be happy and fulfilled. After graduation, I worked in product development in corporate retail. As my career advanced, I took on more responsibility on the business end and the creative aspects of my job dwindled. I started working on calligraphy for friends and family on the side, and then eventually decided to go full time.
Please tell us about your art.
I design invitations, address envelopes, and create signage and decor for weddings and events. Ladybird Johnson once said, “A little beauty, something that is lovely, I think can help create harmony which will lesion tensions.” Ladybird Paper Co. has the same mission that its namesake did. My hope is that when people see their name beautifully written on a place card or envelope, it will bring them a sense of joy which they will pay forward.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Yes, I think that art reflects what is going on in the world, as artists express themselves and show a window to their world and soul.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
In your mailbox or at an event. By continuing to send snail mail! Clients can order custom invitations, signage, and decor for their weddings and of course envelopes.
