Meet Alexis Barfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Barfield.

Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Honestly, I fell in love with cooking growing up. My dad would ALWAYS make Sunday dinners, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, etc., any holiday you name he was cooking. I started cooking on my own in high school for my teammates. My original plan was to go to a D1 school on a basketball scholarship and then proceed to play professional basketball. All that came to an end when I tore a tendon in my left ankle. I took a path that was dark and cold. After the death of my father at 15 years old, my life felt like it completely crashed, I had no direction. At the age of 19, my brother passed, and again my entire world came crashing down. The odds were against me, but I had to change my lifestyle chooses before I was next. My sister and brother-in-law took me in and cleaned my life as much as possible. I joined the United States Air Force for a fresh start. I had the opportunity to play basketball again at a high level. I started training for that, and of course, I got hurt again with compartment syndrome in both my legs. I got surgery in 2019 and haven’t been the same since. I started taking my cooking to another level the summer of 2020 when COVID first hit. I had nothing else to do, so I began to do something I loved since I couldn’t physically play basketball. It made me happy to see other people happy from what I created. I had my first private chef gig in the winter of 2021, and from there, I began my private chef career. When I moved to Dallas, I decided to put myself out there on a bigger stage. I can now call myself a rising celebrity chef. Within 3 months into this new year, I have gotten to cook for Desi Banks and Tay Money. I’ve had a lot of networking with A list artist as well. That’s a little short story on my crazy life.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No success is smooth. As I mentioned, I do have a messed-up leg, so cooking is painful at times but beyond worth it. I believe you have to be in the best head space and sprits as possible when cooking food. You really have to care for it and love what you do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My special meal is steak. I love cooking and eating steak. A lot of these steak houses don’t take their time with it. I’m most proud of how far I’ve came since living in Dallas in such little time. What sets me apart from most is I put myself in front of celebrities and asking them myself. I grind out emails to their managers as well.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is satisfying my customers. I love to see them enjoy and love the food that I prepared. Also, the presentation of the food.
