Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Smith.
Alexis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started a personal blog in college as a hobby. It was something that I could do to preoccupy my free time. It was a space just for me where I could write about the hardships I was going through. It basically became a sense of therapy for me. I wrote on and off but was never consistent with my writing due to the fear of people not reading or supporting me. Within that time of me starting the blog in college, I realized that I didn’t know what it meant to love myself. I was still seeking validation from others, still trying to people please, and was not happy with myself at all. I spent time alone, time to figure out who I am, and I discovered many things about myself that has shaped me today. After making this discovery, I turned to write about positivity and self-love for women. I know that the things that I have experienced at the ripe age of 25 are no coincidence and my mission is to motivate and inspire other women of all ages to truly love themselves and be the woman they are called to be.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will admit that the road has been a little bumpy. Creating new content is difficult when you work 9 to 5 jobs that you aren’t fulfilled with. Sacrifices are made, such as early mornings and late nights. Financially, I have been investing in my business while also trying to pay bills and am constantly praying that everything will pay off in the end. I find it hard to not revert back to people-pleasing when I am trying to market my business. Lack of support has been a huge thing for me as sometimes I get discouraged when I don’t get as many likes on a picture or I don’t sell as much merchandise as I hoped I would but the key for me is to be consistent and displaced and continue writing.

The name of my business is Crowned Haute. Crowned Haute means Crowned in elegance and freedom, your truest self without fear of judgment. It is a blogging business and I write about many different topics – mainly boiling down to self-love to help women and men know that they are not alone in their life journey. I am most proud of the realness of my blog and the safe haven that I have created. The topics that I write over are real-life experiences. I provide tips, affirmations, resume revision services, etc. to help others develop themselves mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Day by day, helping them reach their highest self. I believe that one thing that sets me apart from others is that I keep my blog post short but informational. I am not selling anything in my post nor am I giving out biased advice. I am truly giving advice on different topics and ways to handle the forms of obstacles when they arise in your life journey.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality I feel is most important to my success is empathy. Without empathy, I don’t think that I would be able to write about the topics that I do because I wouldn’t have an understanding that other people have similar experiences to mine.
