Meet Allie Farmer of Allie Farmer Photography in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Farmer.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started becoming interested in photography when I was a sophomore in high school. I would take my point and shoot to parties and take detail shots of the food and portraits of everyone trying to have fun (with me interfering!)

About a year later I purchased a Canon Rebel t3, and took photos of our family trips and events with it. From high school on I had dreamt of being a professional photographer, but was honestly worried that I wasn’t good enough.

One day when I was a sophomore in college, my best friend finally asked why I wasn’t taking pictures of people for money, and at that moment I realized that it was now or never; I’ve always known I don’t want to work a 9-5 job the rest of my life, and it was about time I started betting on myself.

So, in April 2016 I started taking photos of graduating seniors I knew, and from there I started getting into weddings as well. My passion for what I do keeps me going, and I haven’t looked back since!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall I’ve had an amazing time growing my business. The small struggles I’ve faced have never compared to the joy I feel spending time taking peoples’ photos and helping them feel as beautiful as they are. Sometimes the business side of photography can be tedious, and I know that as my business grows some growing pains will eventually result. Despite all of this, it is so worth it to me to get to do what I love doing!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Allie Farmer Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
My specialties and my joy are senior portraits and weddings. I love to spend time with seniors who are entering into the world and with couples getting married because I love the fact that they are both about to set out on the biggest adventures of their lives so far.

What sets me apart and also what I’m most proud of in my business is that every client I have becomes a friend of mine. I’m not a take your money and run kind of photographer, but one that’ll add you on Facebook and catch up with you and you can feel comfortable with on the most special days of your life. I’ll be there to calm you down on your wedding day when something goes wrong and I’ll be there to reassure you of how beautiful you are inside and out when we’re taking your senior portraits. I like to guarantee that I’m a friend to all of my clients, and so much more than just someone who takes their photos!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Although I think luck has played its part in my business in that I haven’t faced too many hard times, I really think that God has blessed me immensely in bringing the most wonderful clients into my life and for giving me the gifts to start this business in the first place. The photography business is full of amazing and giving people who prefer community over competition, and they have helped me so much along the way as well! I know that life has its ups and downs and so will my business, but I always trust that it’s all a part of the bigger plan that God has for me.
