Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Reschke.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Artsy and creative is right up my alley but I never really pursued a hobby that could lead to a career. Of course, that’s everyone’s dream to love what you do… easier said than done! One day I decided a change needed to happen so I enrolled in floral design school. After perusing the art of floral arrangements, I quickly moved on to the idea of creating a piece that lived and thrived. And that’s how Boggy Creek Creations began! My love for moss had to be involved so my next trip to the hills of Oklahoma turned into a moss gathering adventure. I also collect all the wood and rocks myself along with my mom’s good eye. It took some trial and error getting the technique down but once I got the hang of it, my imagination started flowing. I could make very realistic scenes. The moss looked like lush green grass and small ferns resembled trees. Ironically miniature figures add even more life considering they are the most unalive piece… but the people, animals, etc. are what make it your terrarium… it’s a personal touch. Its magical looking into a tiny world, and I absolutely love creating these living dioramas.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, but I wouldn’t say it’s been a bumpy road either. I wanted to make more than just a terrarium… I focused on creating a thriving self-sustained mini ecosystem, and that has taken time to achieve. Every discouraging moment has been followed by a positive outcome, and I thank God for that.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I chose the name Boggy Creek Creations because it sounds whimsical and earthy just the way I would describe my terrariums. I do it all… creating the terrarium design, gathering all the pieces, taking the pics (have you ever tried to photograph glass??), and sales. I believe what sets me apart from other companies, is the uniqueness of a gift that is very personal. I make scenes with families at their favorite vacation spot. I have even recreated a special photo memory.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes definitely. Dallas is the perfect place to start out. There is such a wide range of diversity but at the same time it’s not overwhelming. I have had such amazing feedback from the people of Dallas along with great opportunity.
