Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Vega.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have loved everything artsy and glamorous since I was a little girl. From painting & photography grew my love for makeup. Being from such a small little country town I really didn’t have much support at first when I decided to pursue becoming a professional Makeup Artist, to a lot of people it didn’t fall into the category of a “real job.” Since I was a young single mom of two little girls, I was expected to go to college but that’s not what I really wanted to do. In 2013, I picked up an eyeshadow brush and started asking anyone and everyone who would let me do their makeup. When I started, I had zero confidence and that definitely showed in my work but over the years, I have watched my portfolio and clientele grow in ways I never thought imaginable.
Now here we are six years later, I have transitioned my business from standard makeup application to focusing solely on Wedding and Photography Makeup. I have serviced clients and brides all over the beautiful state of Texas. I have had the privilege to work with some amazing photographers, and my work has been published in multiple magazines. I am really excited to focus and expand my business in ways I never thought I could this year.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh no not at all! I wish I could say this process has been an easy one but I truly think the struggle and doubt is what gave me the strength to not give up. So many people doubted me along the way which was heartbreaking because this is my dream! I’ve cried so many tears, I charged the bare minimum for makeup appointments, and there were times I barely made enough to refill my kit. I put myself in the hole financially over the years. At one point, I was the General Manager of a restaurant and still doing clients in my off time just to keep my business afloat. Its an amazing feeling knowing my business has flourished and I’m no longer in debt because I never gave up.

Every time I have had the privilege of working in the Dallas area everyone has been so welcoming. The one thing ill say ill never get used to is the traffic. I am from a small country town where we can get anywhere in 15 minutes or less.
