Meet Ana Maria Lam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Maria Lam.

Ana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m Ana Lam. I worked for corporate automotive in marketing and sales for ten years. I was career-driven, motivated, tenacious, and willing to do it all. I went back to school and got my MBA while working full time and subsequently falling in love with my wonderful husband. Then came Ana Lam, mom. I changed and I wasn’t sad about it. I knew my number one priority at that moment was no longer climbing the corporate ladder, but it was my family. In 2014 we took a leap of faith and I walked away from all my recorded successes and I started as a Realtor.

My goal was to earn enough to get our family on a vacation. What I didn’t realize at the time is that Ana Lam the ”mom” didn’t actually leave the old me, I was the same workhorse, driven for results, satisfaction and experience as I was before just in a different capacity. Actually, a more life-changing role finding people a home, helping people. My first year instead of just making a little extra for the family, I developed a base of loyal customers and I provided for my family. The old Ana came blazing back and I was determined to not just make this a side gig to being a mom, but a full-blown career that coexists with my new life.

After a few years, my husband calls me from a work trip and tells me he just saw a tweet from Chip Gaines that they are looking for a few realtors in the DFW to join their team. I am an Aggie, but I guess it’s fair to mention at this point that my husband is a true Baylor Bear fan and everything associated with the Bears. When Fixer Upper and Chip and Jo came to popularity watched the show and enjoyed seeing Waco on TV. We discussed a lot because I was very happy with the broker I was with at the time, but we decided that it was the right opportunity to try and pursue for the next step of growth for me. We agreed with their values, lifestyle and unique offering of a boutique brokerage with a loyal following.

I decided to apply knowing they were only going after a select few in DFW, got an interview and now I’m going on my 4th year with them! In the interview, they also asked what my journey was to get there. And just like this, I responded, I took a leap of faith. I trusted that God had a plan for me and would provide for us. I am able to use my talents and personality for something that I can help people within one of the most important decisions of their life. I give it my all and am always there for my clients – even when I’m getting in trouble from my husband for maybe being on my phone too much.

I reference “we” a lot because all of these decisions were made as a family, not just me. We all had to agree this was the right direction. In all honesty, it was my husband that gave me the push to leave the corporate job, the confidence to pursue Magnolia and gives me the high fives after my successes. So, for that I will be forever grateful to him for where I’ve ended up, in this most perfect career for me, finishing as a multi-million dollar producer each year!

Has it been a smooth road?
For me personally, I would say the hardest thing is marketing myself as Ana Lam, Realtor. Being thought of as a Realtor first. I made a transition from a corporate world where everything is provided for you to do your job, to self-employed where everyone in your sphere of influence is needed to be successful. The more tenure I have, the more that confidence grows with my sphere.

I want to be the first person they think of when they need a Realtor and to have confidence when recommending me. It has taken time and to be honest, patience is a struggle for me. There were a few times early on where my feelings got hurt. I learned to have thick skin and not confuse business and personal decisions. I know everyone I’ve worked with is happy with their experience, it’s getting the rest of the population to know, that’s the challenge.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I think those all go together. I’m proud and confident in my ability to make you as a client feel comfortable throughout the home buying process, whether it’s your first home or tenth. I work the transaction from beginning to end. I know exactly what you want and can ensure we are working together towards that the entire time. You aren’t handed off. You have me, always. I work 24/7, literally, for you. We build a relationship of trust, honesty and comfort. And you get a deal finder. I’ve always been a sucker for a deal. I will always do my best to negotiate and structure the deal best for you without feeling any pressure whether it’s getting the most for your sale or the best price for your purchase.

Real estate is not a one size fits all business. I specialize in making it work for YOU. If you can’t make it into town to see a house, we’ll do it virtually. If you need to bring four kids, no problem. If you work days and need night appointments, let’s do it. I’ve experienced it all. I’ve worked with hundreds of different clients and property types. That breadth of experiences enables me to best represent you.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My favorite part of the DFW area is that there is something for everyone. I live in Frisco and love it, but it might not be what everyone is looking for. Once I get to know my clients and their needs better, there are so many options to fit each person. A downtown lifestyle, suburban life, acreage, garden home, country living, etc. Within an hour you can get it all. I will proudly help anyone across the metroplex. I guess if you are asking what’s my least favorite – it would be the windshield time. But I still think it’s worth it to find what’s perfect for you!
