Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Nguyen.
Andrew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first started doing photography a little over a year and a half ago because it piqued my curiosity seeing a handful of my friends take pictures and post. I finally ended up saving for a camera and began to take pictures with my friends and it wasn’t until six months or so later to when I finally started getting clients to book me for shoots. I got to where I am today by constantly practicing shoots and asking my photographer friends for advice and help (shout out to Kaido, Vicky, Mai, and Daniel for helping me start out). By continuously going on shoots and practicing I began to slowly build my own style of shooting to where I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, it has been somewhat of a smooth road in my growth as a photographer. Periodically I would go through a creator’s block and have to take a week or two breaks from photography to let my creative imagination start back up. A lot of the struggles in my growth as a photographer, however, was finding my own style and brand of shooting. Going forward I definitely would like to expand my skills in photography and step even more out of my comfort zone.
Please tell us about your work.
My photography specializes in mainly portraits. Although I am expanding and shooting more concerts and events as well. I feel that I am known for portraits and a lot of abstract portrait photography so a lot of my clients book me for street fashion photography as well as the usual graduation and senior photos. What I’m most proud of my photography company is that I’m shooting my own style of photography that I enjoy and that I’m staying true to myself.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over differently I would definitely hone the basic skills of photography better. At the beginning of my photography career, I rushed into a lot of shots without a clear concept grasped on photography as I should have. Another thing I would have done differently is that I would have tried to promote myself even more in the beginning and tried to go on, even more, shoots to practice my skills better.
