Meet Angela Ditmore of Ansley Beth Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Ditmore.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for photography since the day I can remember really. I was always the one taking pictures growing up and loved viewing things through my camera. It wasn’t until I was in High School that I realized I really enjoyed taking pictures of people. When I did realize this, of course, I then took every photography class I could find to learn more about shooting in manual, composition and developing in a dark room.

My love developed further when I was in college and I took even more classes to learn more about photography. For a while, I honestly put it on the back burner but as I got older I quickly realized it was one of my truest passions that I had neglected for way too long. I purchased a digital camera and picked up right where I left off with my film camera. I started posting my images and next thing you know people were asking me if I would photograph their families, babies, wedding, etc.

Through this process, I discovered my favorite subjects were high school seniors. So I decided to focus my business on this primarily. Over the past 4 years, I have specialized in providing a special experience for my clients from the very start. I truly love my job so much.

Has it been a smooth road?
Haha NO! Obviously, I started out shooting all types of portraits and sometimes I would leave a session feeling burnt out and not challenged by what I shooting. I quickly realized where my truest artistic passion lied and that’s when I started shooting primarily with Seniors and portraits.

Also, pricing was a huge struggle. You feel bad charging for something that you love so much that really seems so fun on the surface but once you open a REAL business where you are paying for so many overhead cost + equipment and software, taxes etc you quickly realize if you aren’t charging properly your business is doomed. Your TIME is worth something and especially when this is your way to make a living. Everyone has a nice camera but are they running a successful business??

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ansley Beth Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Over the past 4 years, I have specialized in providing a special experience for my clients from the very start. Once I book with a client I start planning their session to reflect their personality and style. Every session includes a pre-consultation where we discuss their outfit selection & accessories (I have a style closet they are welcome to borrow from with jewelry, accessories, etc) and any special details they’d like to include while shooting.

We book hair and makeup to take place the day of the session and from my office, we shoot at the locations we decided on previously using natural light. I help guide my clients on locations based on their outfit selection and the vibe that best describes their personality. After our session, I invite my clients back to my office for a premier viewing session where I show them a slideshow of images that feature my favorite images from their session. At this time we talk about print products and heirloom gift so that they walk away with not only digital files but a tangible item that documents this special time in their families lives. It’s truly such an honor to spend and document such a fun time in their lives.

I think what sets me apart is definitely the experience I provide. I spend a lot of time with my clients in an effort to make their experience special and unique. I love getting to know each of them so that their personality can really shine in their images. I want them to walk away loving all of their photos and I want them to feel like I really took my time with them. I truly want them to feel special because it’s truly such a special time! I am different than most shoot and burn photographers lacking the personal experience for their clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city I live in! It’s a thriving city where entrepreneurs and small businesses are abundant. I love that so many local business partners together to support each other’s businesses to help one another grow and cross-market. It’s a beautiful thing seeing others succeed as well. You can’t really beat Texan hospitality and innate instinct to help others in so many selfless ways.

Least, nothing. I love this place!!!!
