Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Mendoza.
Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At a young age, I was always looking for opportunities to use my creative gifts in styling hair and applying makeup on others. I was inspired to create belief and confidence in the minds of others. God provided numerous opportunities in the hair and makeup industry. For so long, I did hair and makeup for friends as a favor because I knew how special and confident it would make them feel. About five years ago, I decided to pursue the beauty industry to cultivate it into a career. Beauty has always been a passion of mine and is a way for me to express my creativity.
After a couple of years of pursuing my passion, a few opportunities presented themselves. I began receiving calls to join beauty teams from different artists in the industry, several referrals, and even had the opportunity to be a lead hair designer for a performing arts production. My connections, relationships, and friendships began to blossom before my eyes and for that I am thankful. People were seeing me for who I was and for what I was capable of doing.
My mission in the beauty industry is to serve others and to help them feel confident and alive through hair and makeup.
I love the feeling when I see my clients look and feel confident in their own skin. My passion is to help enhance the beauty in which they have already been given, feeling confident, alive, and beautiful. I also enjoy creating beauty content for the everyday woman by providing tips and tricks for others to learn from.
What better way to glorify God by using the gifts he has given me. I love connecting with my clients by learning more about them and building trust. I accomplish this by helping them embrace their natural beauty while meeting their beauty needs. I am excited to continue this journey that I am on.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not always been easy. I didn’t know too many other artists when I decided to pursue this as a career. I had to put all of my insecurities aside and have confidence in my self worth to make an impression with everyone I worked with. It was difficult early on in my career to not get discouraged and compare other’s successes to mine.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I cherish relationships I make while enhancing the beauty in lives around me and want people to sense that from the moment they sit in my chair.
I specialize in bridal updo’s, boho braids and styles, beachy hair, and other natural styles. I am most proud of the fact that I am continuing to grow as an artist and am able to be a part of huge opportunities like this amazing article in Voyage Dallas.
I have been told what sets me apart from others is my ability to relate to different people, my energy, and warm spirit that makes everyone feel comfortable.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have probably started earlier in my career by diving in with no hesitations, taken courses to learn about building a business, and would not have been so hard on myself.
